I love it. Its beautiful. Dont get me wrong. But i just wish not many people had it because the fact that everyone likes it somewhat turns me off although now a deal breaker. No offence to anyone who already has one though!! Anyone else relate?
This account is verified. WatchCrunch has confirmed that this account is the authentic presence for this person or brand.
There's probably one Alpinist for every 10.000 Submariner and its homages out there so I wouldn't say it's quite "generic". Nobody knows about it outside of watch enthusiast circles so it still qualifies as rare in my opinion.
Yeah, if you spend a lot of time on yt and watch crunch, you may observe a lot of the same watches (prx anyone?).
But in the real world, how many times have you seen someone wearing an Alpinist? Or a PRX for that matter. I did see both of them exactly zero times.
Also: even people in the wild who wear watches usually don't care much about them. "Yeah it's a nice watch, got it from my husband/wife".

Kinda agree for the Alpinist, watch forums are not what you can see in the real world.
Except for the PRX, I know at least 3 people with a PRX and saw maybe 5 other people with one on the wrist. Same thing for the Moonswatch. For the rest, almost no one wears automatic watch from horology brand.
But I get the point of the OP and could see myself in the same situation with CW.
There are many iterations of the alpinist now. Colorways, case shapes, complications even entirely new ones like the Laurel reissue
@Matt_Kane makes a good point about not seeing many about I totally agree, I have never seen one out there other than mine. Tbh I tend to covet it as it’s a special watch in my collection and as I prize it, don’t tend to wear it much so perhaps they’re collected and put away ?
I must use my Alpinist as more of a GADA to get more enjoyment out of it, I certainly wouldn’t call it generic.
Nope, it's not generic, it's a legend!
Plus there's so much variety within the Alpinist line - the "normal" ones , the "reduced" the "Laural" and the "GMT", all with their own variations in colour.
Personal favourite is the GMT (on my to get lost) tho I really like the Laurels, gifted the brown dial one to my best mate and he's worn it 24/7 for the last couple of years with no issues (he's not a WIS either)
So no, not generic, but dare I say practically iconic 😁👍🏻
Not really. This one caught my eye:
If you only find value in watches based on their perceived rarity or community following….sure.
Tbh that seems like a pretty shallow reason to like a watch. I buy what I like. Number of units sold to other customers is not a part of that equation. I’d hazard a guess that’s true of most enthusiasts.
So because many people like the watch it impacts your taste? Does that go for anything else like a car, music, movie?? Not being combative, I just find your take interesting.
Never seen one in the wild. Not sure why you think it’s too common…

Yeah pre much. I dont like having stuff everyone has (in general).
