First Luxury Watch

I have been saving and thinking of buying my first luxury watch on my birthday this year, I have thought of these three my budget is around 2k USD I can go probably little up like 2.5 but I'm thinking 2 is a good budget. Any other watch recommendations are also welcome!

Damn I would've voted for a Blue Tag Heuer Carrera 39mm automatic if that was an option but I forgot that prices increase every year and it's no longer 2700 so my vote goes to the Tudor

·

Tudor or the Nomos are the most versatile. I’d start with something sporty that goes with most of what you wear.

·

I'm feeling the same way.  I've been dabbling with Seiko and Chinese homage watches to get a feel for what I like.  Learned a lot along the way!  Now, I'm ready to make the jump.  I've been looking at the Tudor 1926 because I think it's criminally overlooked.  I've seen very clean copies on Chrono24 for ~2k. That would be my choice among these.  Especially the blue hands and markers version.  39mm for me.

I usually wear casual clothes I feel like tudor is a good option but i'm so confused the nomos is so beautiful, but probably won't go with a sweatshirt/polo tshirt which I'm usually wearing

I agree, but I would only go for new watches the feeling of going in the showroom and getting it in your hands is inimitable.
I'm okay with 36-39, I have a 38 expedition north mechanical, which I think is perfect a little small or big won't matter, but I believe that 40+ is too much for my wrist, I have a ecb 10D which is way too big, if gshock MTG made anything under 40mm I would've gone for that, as its indestructible.

·

Ultimately, it is best to go with your first choice rather than the price.   It terms of heritage and retaining watch value and timeless style,  I'd choose Cartier Tanks Must.

I would've voted for the Orion if there was a bracelet option but another route is just getting different straps but as far as stock watches go I think the Tudor is the most versatile

Not a fan of any really for a first watch. I’d save up to 3k and get a GS quartz.

·

I always feel, at least on watch collecting forums, that the rest of the collection is worth considering. What do you find yourself wearing most? What are ‘gaps’ in your collection? I think the Tag is the most versatile and a tossup with the Tudor on my personal aesthetic preference, but if it was me it’d be the NOMOS as I don’t have any bauhaus style watches, or the tank as it also is a pretty unique piece that I have no close match to.

GS is not my cup of tea else that would've been my choice

Hey, my current collection is this, the watch with the most wrist time is my expedition north, when I go out I'm either wearing my ecb10D or moonswatch, other watches are just like only wear with specific clothes, the leather belt one I wear with polo tshirts when I go to a beach, the gold is too shiny and I only wear it with formals that's once in a blue moon. bought the 25$ timex coz I never had a nato and wanted to try one.
I'm falling over tudor but thinking carrera would be a good choice too.

The Tudor looks like a really solid choice for sure! I have that same swatch too, wearing it today even. Good luck with the purchase. I’m sure whatever you decide it’ll be something you treasure for years to come.

Thank you.

·

Cartier or Nomos for the win.

·

The Tank if my favorite of the choices, but I chose the Tudor for versatility.  I think the Nomos fits the bill there as well, but I'm a more old-school type of person.  I like what Nomos does, but it never feels quite like it belongs on my wrist.

·

Sorry but can't help you on this.  Luxury watches are not my thing . . . unless they are luxury tool watches, then I like'em but cannae afford 'em.

·

I think to add to what you have, I’d go with the tank, but the Tudor is also good-looking…Nomos has a lot of good options in that price range, most nice and thin and with some water resistance…I would definitely check out the the Club models.

·

You've picked four good options, and personally I would go with the Tag or Tudor.

Some other versatile dress watches to consider are the Longines 1832 ($1,900),

Image

the Junghans Meister Handaufzug (which was just discontinued)

or the Longines Flagship ($1,700)

The Nomos is beautiful, and really pretty special in terms of independent watchmaking. I’ve tried the Orion at the AD, and I think it’s more versatile than you might expect. Some of it is your own style/comfort level, of course. I wear my tank with t’s and jeans, and divers with silk shirts.

If you are looking for a sporty watch that has dressy appeal and can move back and forth between the boardroom and the golf course, then you cannot beat the Maurice Lacroix Aikon 39mm for just under $2,000...

I liked the Carrera for a GADA , I chose the Nomos because it’s a statement piece and clean , symmetrical ( i line that it doesn’t have a date ) easy put down pick up optionality , and it’s nothing like ever other Luddite out there with a mall watch on , if money wasn’t so strict I would look at a Sinn 556 …

Your watch box is too small :)

Tag is my choice here. It's versatile and looks good on so many occasions.

As a first luxury watch, it puts extra pressure/emphasis to select a watch you will have opportunity to wear a lot. My first choice would have been the Tank - you’re getting a watch with an iconic design and a staple of the Cartier catalog. However, if you don’t think you could wear it with a sweatshirt then I think you’re better off picking 1 of the other options - all of which are equally nice. If I had to pick one, it’d probably be the Nomos - I can wear it on any strap I currently own and it would look great. My advice to you is pick the one that excites you the most, or in the very least the one you think you’d wear most. Good luck!👍

Thank you.

My choice would be the Tudor....but as a first (or not !) luxury watch you wont go wrong with none of your options.

I think the build of Tudor is amazing. That and tag are the ones I've shortlisted

I guess the other question is, are you going to grow the collection?  How are you going to fund it?  Is there a grail watch?  I tend not to trade or sell pieces I have acquired so retained value is irrelevant.  However if you are looking at trading up later, I would go with the Tudor.

Also if you are looking for a watch to fall in love with and wear it all the time, the Tudor.  It would match better most of what you are wear vs the other watches which more fashion biased.

I've shortlisted that and tag, plus I don't think I'm gonna ever sell or trade it, I will keep it for passing it to my son if I ever have one.

All my watch colleagues here are spot on.
Go for most versatile on a first Lux

A watch that can go formal ..and can also go to a bar or on the bus.

I‘d also suggest solid WR of 100m (and ideally a screw crown so you never need concern about being wet.  )

Tag Carerra automatic- I like the blue dial

Image

Oris Aquis in a not bonkers colorway

Image

Longines Spirit

Image

Rado Cap Cook in steel (the green dial is fantastic)

Thanks for the suggestion, I looked over cap cook too, idk it doesn't excites me as much as tag and tudor

Hahah, I know I started collecting 6 months back and as a 24 year old guy I'm not rich yet, before that I used to wear smart watches

For what it's worth - I thought nothing of the cap cook models until I'd tried a few on.  Was much better in person IMO
