New GMT-Master II

Is the new Rolex GMT-Master II homage to Seiko 5 GMT SSK001K1? 🤣

Man that GMT is sexy.

·

Don’t forget Marc #islander 🤣

You do bring up an interesting point though....

Where's all the bemoaning of Tudor doing an "homage" with the new GMT...👀🤏🏻😂😆

Do they get a pass due to "heritage" and price point not being in traditional homage territory?

·

It’s like studio underdog that decided to homage one of their homages 😜

·

Like the Seiko Seems less busy and more ledgible

·

Copy my homework but don’t make it obvious.

Not to shit on Rolex haha I do like that gmt master II but I know who I would rather be stuck in lift with someone with a seiko on or a Rolex 🧐

·

A GMT Master II that you can use outside that will keep your left arm intact! 🔥

OK, I'll play... of the shared features, who is more associated with what? (not including independent settable GMT, etc)

Rolex

  • 12/24 hour hand function 1955

  • Bi-color bezel AM/PM Rotating bezel 1955

  • Automatic jumping date 1945

  • Cyclops 1953

  • Jubilee bracelet 1945

  • Screw down crown - purchased by Rolex 1926

Seiko

  • Gray

·

This crossed my mind lol

·

Granted not a close competition, but red hand > green hand.

Hmm. Obviously Seiko did more. Thanks Seiko for introducing Gray into our lives 😍

Honestly, i think the new gmt is boring. The grey works a lot better on its golden siblings

Oh I agree, and have no problems, but still a little ironic to me.

Came up during the Micro Tournament, but I'd say the Monta GMT is as good an option as this one.

Common complaint from many against Monta was it was derivative and too "homage-y".

And yes Tudor does have the back catalog and chops that they helped to start the OG. Just an observation.

Same observation I had with the new Seiko 5 Field GMT with a white dial and fixed 24 hr bezel, very Exp II.

But this just proves that a good design is a good design, and it's ok to be similar-ish.

And I only know this because of the #microtournament and @AllTheWatches btws, so I have him to thank for elucidating how much of a steal the Monta is.

The Monta is an homage to the OG Rolex Bakelite GMT Master (6542), and it’s a well-executed one, I think it’s beautiful. Monta themselves say it’s an homage to the Rolex:

Again, this is the issue: people misappropriating terms. ‘Homage’ sounds far better than ‘copy’ and so it began being adopted for that reason; you don’t put a Monta Skyquest on the same level as a Pagani Batman…the Monta is an homage, the Pagani a copy. It’s not that hard to understand the difference, but some people actively choose not to, or don’t quite understand the difference (and this includes some of your favorite YouTubers who are just fans like us, learning as we go along, or have a vested interest in pushing them). That being said, if one chooses to build a collection of copies, go ahead … more power to you; people will have opinions about any and everything — I *personally* don’t care for replicas or copies, they’re soulless plagiarisms in my opinion and cheap cash-ins — but you shouldn’t care what Joe Bloggs thinks, nor feel the need to jump on every thread to justify a purchase; it’s your wrist.

But we digress; I think the OP was posted in good fun, nothing more. I think …

I would agree, also I think...(In regards to the OP and everything else). 🤣

If there is a conspiracy theory it would be that Rolex is planting people on forums to convince everybody that they are not readily available.

You may need to wait a little while, but they sell plenty through the stores. Just sit out there and look at all the green bags leaving the store. But dont be creepy about it!!

Somehow don't think I would get confused as being a creep 😂🤣🙄they would definitely be calling the police and security on me though,I will just take your word on it my friend 👍save the charges on my clean slate.

·

Lol. Looks that way 👍

·

Hahahahaha couldn't agree more!

·

Hilarious!!!😆

·

Haha I was thinking this too! 😂

Only decent Rolex release from W&W this year

·

Yes most watch designs are similar. Alert the media!

·

Yes.

·

All Rolex has here is the name, movement, and the fact it's a flyer GMT. Is that worth and additional 15k? In my mind no. Seiko all day.

I'd opt for an Explorer II over the GMT Master.
