To the OP's point, I had the same experience with a Subaru WRX... That car was a dude magnet. One day I was approaching a stop light where university students were collect change for a charity. I was in my mid 20s, and there was an attractive young lady collecting in my lane. As I got closer a dude collecting two lanes over noticed the car, and switched lanes with her so he could ask me about the car...
I used to drive a 1970SS Chevelle 454 LS6 Big block Chevy, police would stop me, instruct me to repair my damaged muffler( was in fact running open headers), on one occasion an officious fella made a comment about the Gruen Curvex watch that I just picked up from my regular watchmaker, he remarked that where he came from, a guy could get beat up for wearing a ladyโs watch.
I know exactly 1 guy who actually used to be able to successfully integrate this as part of his flirting with girls at a bar (with a lot of bullshiting about connections of his watch to Rolex). Hilariously, one time he got called out by another girl who was standing nearby. He swiftly moved to a different part of the bar lol.
His current girlfriend knows some watch stuff tho, so he didnโt use it on her.

Right? My experience here in L.A. is that cars, sneakers and even t-shirts will illicit dozens of comments for every one stranger commenting on your watch. Perhaps it's more commonly viewed as intrusive to acknowledge that one has been peeping someone else's wrist so closely. BTW I never praise someone else's watch and then fish for a compliment of mine. That exceeds my awkward encounter limit.
Nope - never expect anybody to notice, as I buy just for me as marks of success. Only time my watches have been noticed is in very formal business/office settings with senior management types who are into presenting/flexing and integrating into a certain class aesthetic.
In my experience, the watches that get the most compliments from women are the ones that are eye-catching or unique in some respect. The strap is often a big factor, Iโve noticed. In particular people like the salmon with black stripes CNS NATO that I have, black/white/blue/red striped one, and my maroon one. The first and third are the most-liked.
Women do not generally notice a specific watch or know what it is specifically that is on your wrist. However, there are a number of things a guy must do to look "put together." Having a watch on that appropriately matches the occasion and clothes worn is a key piece of looking put together. For this reason, in my opinion, the specific watch brand does not matter as much as how it looks with the rest of your clothes and the occasion.
Haha this meme is such facts ๐. I think my biggest achievement though is getting my wife into watches (and field/fliegers no less!), she now has a Watch Crunch account. My life has peaked ๐.
Stop underestimating yourself! He definItely came over for your pretty eyes!! ๐
I'm just kidding! Girls in general will not look at cars. As much as we would hope. Unless they know the value of it and it is north of $100,000.
I guarantee you I will not have any girls interested in me when I'm driving my beater $1000 '04 Ram! I might get the odd glance when I have my Miata on the trailer though...
Never date anybody who loves you for your car. No matter how old they are, they are 14.

Mine are more marks of eccentricity if not mental illness.
My gf tolerates my watch blather, but I often buy her jewelry when I buy myself a watch. She accused me of conditioning her to watch culture with positive association...

I think reality is, nobody notice.
People notice, they just don't comment.

Women do notice unlike men they don't compliment.

If this is why you really love watches, then you should find a better hobby.

I find it a bit sexist.
I think I have been asked about my watch maybe 5 times in all the years and mostly by my siblings. Never by a random.
The only watch Iโve ever worn that ANYBODY ever notices.
