Considerations on the new Oris Propilot X

I tried on this grey beauty today (sorry for the plastic, but I did not dare to ask if they would take it off for the photo...). Not owning a titanium watch, it was odd to not feel the weight. The dimensions are perfect for my small wrist though. And the movement is something else! 5 days power reserve? Yes please! If I bite the bullet, it's going to be on the salmon dial, because, come on... 🤤 I really like Oris as a brand and they seem to move slowly into the more luxury segment of the market. Next: a visit to Hölstein! 😎

I’ve considered the gray dial one as well but the reflectivity of the glass made me say No. Make sure to negotiate, you usually can get a good discount on Oris watches. 😉

·

Salmon or blue dial for sure. Oris can’t lose with recent releases.

·

Tried on a grey at WoS, and it’s a lovely piece. Light, rugged, and the bezel is very tactile. Would definitely consider a pink dial.

·

I haven't had one in hand but it seems really plain for the money.

·

Not my personal favorite Oris as I think they are so special with their dials and let's face it, these dials are the bare minimum. The all grey would be for me if I had to choose.

·

The salmon dial is quite bold, but it looks nice. I like the whole fighter jet aesthetics of the watch, especially the bezel. It is also awesome that they are independent and do their own movement, their watches are surely high quality.

One thing I am not sure about with this watch and I think I could only sort out by having it before my eyes is if I would find the dial interesting enough in the long term. I prefer applied indices and the texture of the dial does not appeal too much at first sight.

·

My issue with these watches is that they are supposed to be pilots watches. Nothing in this design says to me it's a pilots watch.   I also agree with  @yankthemike,  Oris makes some beautiful dials and although the colors on these are nice, they overall dials are pretty sterile.

Having said that, if you get it, hope you love it.  Great thing about watches,  is that there is something for everyone.

Cheers.

The salmon dial is def the pick of the bunch… it’s quite a unique range so you know you’ll be wearing something that has a good chance of sparking conversation/ getting noticed. For me theres not enough visually to get me to pony up - particularly with all the good stuff coming out of Breitling and GS at this price point - bit if it gets your heart racing, I’d say “Do it!” 💜

I'd say wait and try to get it in the secondary market for cheaper, also I haven't handled this one but from experience with bracelets like these they tend to extend the watch outwards, a strap makes them look slightly smaller. Buy the watch you love, if it's the salmon, go for it.

I like the style of this watch. More pilot watch inspired than functional pilot's watch. Dial color is cool.  I dislike the indices. Painted lines, really?  The lumed hands are nicely shaped.  They put a display crystal back on the watch but they don't do any finishing work to the movement to make you want to look at it.  It may save money but it looks half finished to me. Over all it is okay but I am not in love with it.

Awesome watch!  Beautiful salmon dial!

Obligatory...

Once you go titanium, you can never go back.  It's such an incredibly comfortable wearing experience!

·

Definitely the Salmon Dial.

The opinion of this lowly internet idiot is that it’s certainly trying very hard to break through into the luxury segment. This approach seems both Nomos and Tudor inspired, and i personally am not a fan. Looks like it’s trying to be too simplistic in its approach to the design, the hands and indices are almost downright boring, as clean as they look. Thankfully the dial has some texture. The angular cut to the knurling on the bezel just rubs me the wrong way, but might win me over in the metal. But the bracelet is all wrong in that industrial angular way that just isn’t flowing with the “Pilot” style watch they said they were trying to make? definitely not a pilots watch. Sure the power reserve is a cool feature, and it’s cool to be made out of titanium, but not if it’s at the expense of looking haphazardly put together. I think Oris has done much better, and this one is just a pass for me.

·

Love it! I find the grey dial works the best with the industrial design & sombre titanium case. The salmon feels too bright for it. But just my opinion 🤓👍🏼

Printed dial makes this a no from me. I love the case design and bracelet especially, but the dial is a miss in my opinion.

·

I tried on the gray one a few weeks ago....I really love the unusual bracelet, clasp and bezel.  However,  i couldn't get past the (imo) the cheap-looking hands....and it's overpriced.

·

Beautiful - I love the style, and grey looks better than expected

·

It’s such an awesome watch. Specs are just perfect. However when I tried on the blue dial, there was just something not quite clicking for me. Maybe it’s the flat coloured blue dial or the fact that it looks surprisingly large on my wrist for a 39mm watch. Neither normally negatives for me, but were enough to stop me pulling the trigger. One hell of a watch, so wear in good health when you pick one up!

I tried them on at the AD, initially thinking they were too simple and that the salmon would be my favorite color. Totally blown away, however, with the size and light weight. And, LOVED the gray, even if it's not that splashy of a color. The gray with the black markers just works for me.
