What is your "daily beater"?

I don't really understand the concept of the "daily beater". What's the point of owning a beautiful watch as a daily companion if I don't want to put it on out of fear for it. Okay, it doesn't always fit - if I had an A. Lange & Söhne, I wouldn't wear it on the construction site either. I might also leave my Speedies at home for certain activities. But a watch, behind which I do not stand, is also out of the question for me!

Therefore: here is my watch for all cases: robust, reliable and in my opinion fantastic looking! 😉

It depends on what you do and what your budget is. To many a BB58 is a dream watch or something for special occasions that they respect and care for, and of course there are others who use them everyday, as to them it's inexpensive or just not that special, it just depends on your outlook.

Of course, you're right and I didn't want to show off either - the BB58 is a dream watch for me too and I wouldn't expose it to unnecessary dangers, of course. But in my opinion, it is not a watch for the special moments, but a watch that can be worn for almost any activity.

Every one of my modest collection could be considered "beaters" LOL!! That said, I do own a couple of watches whose duty is "chore helper"; a late model Timex Atlantis and a 2009 Timex Expedition 3-hander ... both have black resin cases and as the ads say, "takes a licking and keeps on ticking"!

Lovely Tudor you have there BTW 😎

Thanks man! 🙏

I love Speedmasters, but the BB58 is my all-you-can-do watch.

I guess it depends on how you define “beater”.

The original definition meant something that could be “beat on (like a drum)”. So, a “beater” watch is one that will be used, abused and generally given a hard life.

“Daily beater” is a conglomeration of “Daily driver” (the watch you wear every day, just like the car you drive every day) and “Beater” (the watch you wear for doing tough jobs). By those definitions, the term makes no sense.

At this point, the terms have largely become interchangeable; although it still makes me wince when people call a BB58 their “beater” watch!

·

The concept of a beater watch, as I understand it, is pretty simple: You wear the watch that you don't like so you won't have to wear those that you do.

·

I wear a casio to mow (if I need to be somewhere afterwards )the lawn but after clean up I will put on what watch I want to wear daily yes ! Enjoy your watches !

·

Love your BB58. I’ve been wanting a Tudor for a while. My speedy is my daily To me - however it’s described and whatever it’s cost - a daily wear or beater is a watch, which through regular use and the occasional ding and scratch, is a travel companion through life that can become part of our individual stories and a reminder of cherished memories.

·

Since I’m a classy guy, I keep it classy daily…

As long as I don't beat the BB to death... 😉

That's my point: I don't linke to wear a watch I don't like! 😎

So, the Speedy can! 😀

It was on the moon, so it should be able to withstand life on earth (apart from excessive exposure to water)! ❤

Cool selection! 👍

Recently bought a Pelagos which cost about three times as much as the rest of my collection put together.

But I have worn it almost every day since purchase including swimming and gardening etc although part of me feels I should not.

So I'm a bit conflicted on that really!

A new problem, at least to me, is that all my other watches are presently relegated to sitting in the watch boxes. That would be a whole other post!?

Nice Tudor by the way!

I'm usually in the office and only once or twice a month would need to do field visits. I wear my GS daily since I got it a couple years back. I love it because most people just see it as a seiko. Although I do bring another watch in the bag just in case I feel like switching.

I don't consider any of my watches "daily beaters." I do have a couple of watches that I wear when I'm doing physical work like working on my car or truck, or gunsmithing, etc. A couple of my older Citizen Military quartz divers have proven to be tough and my Vostoks seem to be able to take the rough stuff so the fit the bill. i also have a couple that I tend to rotate through as weekend watches. The rest are on my rotation.

Prx p80 is my daily watch don't really care if it gets scratch especially the bracelet

·

My idea of a beater is never to be a watch you don’t like. Sometimes I don’t want to overdress and wear an expensive watch to the gym or something. Or maybe for some places I travel. Or Maybe an activity that might be more likely to ding, dent, scratch or especially submerge. I have a 200 meter Bulova Mil Ships I consider a Beater and I wear it more than just to beat on. I really like it in fact… So in short a Beater is a glorious thing. Not a diss at all.

·

My go to beater is always the Scuba Dude. Tough as nails and cheap as chips. Water tight and keeps good time. Stainless steel 31 jewel automatic.

Just saw this on AE and thought about purchasing it. Would you recommend this watch? It's on sale for less than $80 right now, with one left in stock.

It’s pretty good. It gets a fair amount of attention. I paid £50 so it’s good value.

Daily beater, Doxa 600T. I wear a watch for #wruw then go back to this watch most of the time.

Well, of all my watches, I think the Polar Explorer II would be my choice. Yeah, it's pricey, but it's also a steel bezel meant to be beat up.

This is why Gshocks exist. You can love them and beat them up.

What model is that islander?

Well the first picture is of the ISL147 cream dial Manhasset, then the black diver is the ISL100 Ameriquartz and the white dial 12 3 6 9 dial is the ISL84. All brilliant watch's and very much recommend if you like good no nonsense timepieces.

I fall in your camp brother my wife bought me a bb58 for my wedding gift and it was my only luxury piece at the time. I wear it everywhere the gym, cut the grass in it, and all kind of other adventures. It has some light scratches on the case but it’s the memories I have made with it. My daughter playing with it in the bath. There built not to break so use ‘em!
