How do you take your watch photos

Hi Crunchers,

I've just ordered a new camera, mainly for taking photos of my family and our trips, and just getting back into the hobby in general.

But this got me thinking, that my WRUW photos could definitely use an upgrade on the quality level.

So what are you guys using to take your watch pics and how do you optimize your photos?

I feel like angle plays a really important part because it can sometimes make the photo look awkward.

·

I just use my iPhone 13 does alright for me was thinking about getting a proper camera but it’s not needed

Usually just on my phone but got a new Laowa macro lens for the Sony been playing around with a little!

·

To answer the title specifically, badly! 😝

·

Just use my Google Pixel & crop mostly. I generally don't do any post-processing.

·

iPhone. I’ve thought about doing creative stuff, but then I say “nah, what for?”

·

iPhone 15 Pro now.

·

Polaroid

·

iPhone 13 Pro Max and Photo Editor app does the job for me

·

Phone. Occasionally I'll use my GrIIIx.

·

I use my iPhone and post the pic as is. Sometimes I may take another pic if I’m too shaky with the first one, but I never edit a watch photo.

·

I use an Olympus EM-5 mk III with a 25mm (50mm equivalent) f1.8 lens. Then I zap the photos over to my iPhone via Bluetooth on the camera for a nominal amount of post processing in Photos. I’d like to get a macro at some point. Maybe if I get more into watch photography. Mostly I’m capturing with natural light and one handed. Occasionally I’ll stage a shot.

I’ve been using an iPhone 14 Pro Max but I’m excited to try out the new iPhone 15 Pro Max when it arrives with its 5X macro lens. I would love to use my DSLR but it’s really hard to take wrist shots holding a massive camera with a huge lens attached to it. I mean I could always hire a photographer, but I should also look into building out a studio though so that I can take stationary shots by myself. That way I wouldn’t have to hire a photographer to take the photos. Hmm maybe I should set up a studio!

i just use my cellphone for everything... although, i might invest for a macro lens so i can use it for film :) watches and film photography might go well together.

lightning is important and how it hits the dial (especially sunburst dials) no edits, so it looks natural.

·

iPhone 14 Pro for my WRUW posts. I like them to reflect what I’m wearing in a real “in the moment” way and it’s not common to have my mirrorless camera with me on a daily basis for spontaneous photos.

·

Samsung Galaxy S21+. It takes fairly good pictures but i would like a real camera eventually

·

Sony A7 mk 1 + old Canon FD lenses + macro adapter + ton of home-made light diffusors, holders etc.

For light I use either natural light with reflectors, or 2 small LED lights

Most of my photos are on Instagram as I use Watch Crunch rather for discussion purposes. Here is my latest shot

I swap out my watches and post them on WRUW almost daily (mostly for my own reference), so I really don’t want to spend too much effort/time shooting. Thus I use my iPhone 14 Max Pro, Lightroom, and sometimes LED lights.

·

Thanks for the tips! I'm getting a Canon 2000D, so I think there are quite a lot of macro extenders for it out there. I don't have any experience with them, though, anything I should look out for?

·

Nikon D3100 with the stock lense and for macro shots extension tubes. Of course everything is shot in manual mode.

·

iPhone 11 Pro Max. Sometimes clip on lenses.

I never survived the transition to digital, so my dedicated cameras are all film, all Canon, and the most recent is from the mid-nineties (in true watch fashion, it coincidentally appeared in a spy film with gadgets, specifically ‘Who Am I’ with Jackie Chan) and would make wrist shots on the day difficult.

O mate! If you enjoy film cameras and manual settings then mirorless full frame camera will be a joy to use!

I cannot stress that enough, as with this setup I have everything that is best from both worlds

Those pics look awesome! The natural dept and color is something I'm not able to reproduce with my Pixel. These photos make me excited for my camera next week 🥳

Yeah, I’ve being making quite a lot of photos with iPhones (Xr/12/14Pro) and I’m almost always editing them, but you can’t just beat greatly taken camera photos, at least not with my hands 😅

Galaxy S22 Ultra for me. Can't be bothered to walk around with a camera & lenses.

I use my iPhone 7 Plus to take my WRUW pics. 90% of them go onto the thread as-is, but if the lighting looks wrong, or if the color looks "washed-out," then I do a slight edit with Pic-Tap-Go Classic. (Auto Contrast / Auto Color.)
