What's your favorite titanium field/explorer watch?

I'm contemplating getting some titanium field/explorer watch and so far my favorites are the RZE Resolute Pro and the Formex Field. Both are similarly priced (around 800 EUR) and have similar dimensions. I like more Formex as a brand, but I'm not a big fan of the handset of the sandblasted finishing of the Formex Field. It does have the better movement, though, and the recessed dial and the case shape are appealing to my sense of aesthetics. The RZE Resolute Pro has a lot going on for it - nice bracelet with on the fly micro-adjust, enamel dial, two-tone lume, brushed finish, hardened coating. It would likely pair with more outfits due to the finishing and the very neutral colors. Which one would you pick and why? Are there any similar titanium watches you'd recommend in this price range? If someone has experience with both watches I'd love to hear them, as for me it's hard to try them in person.

I've never seen this reference. Looks awesome!

These all look great watches, I don't have the same models but I have an RZE Aspirare which is excellent and a Hamilton Khaki manual wind, also excellent, I might be tempted to give Formex a go personally but I have a Baltany with a similar blasted case (no4 )which is more in the cheap seats but is still an excellent watch, damn I'm stumped.... sorry!

I’ve had all three and the Formex is definitely my favourite.

Looks great feels great on and the size is perfect for my 7” wrist. The Hammy was excellent but I want a date display and because of the long lugs the 42 wasn’t right for me. The RZE was a good watch but the Formex definitely has it beat.

You might also want to check out the Boldr Venture line as a more affordable alternative and Zelos recently came out with a new line of titanium field watches.

Can you elaborate a bit on what do you prefer more about the Formex vs the RZE? Btw, I do love the velcro straps of the Formex Field! I wonder why so few watches are using them by default, as for me that's the natural fit for an "adventure watch".

I've seen them both, but I don't like the designs much. From what I gathered the person behind RZE used be in Boldr in the past, but decided to go in a different direction. Zelos make great watches, but their designs (especially their handsets) rarely speak to me.

The quality of the Formex is simply better, as you’d expect as it’s more expensive. I can’t find a single fault in the case whereas there were tiny (really needed to use my magnifying desk light to see them) faults in the case. Also the Formex is just more comfortable, it’s lighter wears more snug to the wrist as it’s slimmer and just seems to be made to hug the wrist. This is my second Formex and my most comfortable watch and my Formex Essence 39 is my second most comfortable even though I’ve got a few other Titanium ones.

The strap is great as it allows the watch to fit snugly but is flexible and breathable keeping the comfortable yes I agree that other brands should look into them.

Hope that helps there really is nothing wrong with the RZE but I just fill the Formex is better. Let us know what you go with.

Longines Spirit in Titanium. A watch I’m strongly considering (I prefer the weight of SS so that’s my route).

·

As far as a Field Titanium its my Expedition North Titanium. Love it so much. Im not a microbrand guy but this checks all the boxes for me.

I want to say Hamilton Field but the titanium line for some reason doesn’t have the typical high contrast design which has kept me from looking into it more.

My current field watch is my Lorus Titanium with a black dial.

Image

Wears wonderfully. I really like the matte black dial and high contrast design. Not a big fan of the 24h markers on an already small 37mm watch which makes things feel a bit cluttered. And the syringe hands have their needles chopped off which looks a bit off at times. Oh and it only has a mineral crystal.

It’s a very interesting watch, I really like it but I am constantly thinking of how to upgrade it 😅.

·

I like the hamilton brand the best, but that formex is just sooooo well done. I’d have to go formex.

·

I love my formex field, I can't recommend it enough.

Nowhere close to the same budget... but...

Of the three, I have been close, several times, to pulling the trigger on the Hamilton.

Luckyyy

I tried it last year, but the lugs are bit too long for me. In they make it in smaller size I'd consider it again.

SWC Ark Field watch

As previously mentioned in the post the Citizen Echo-Drive and the Timex North Face kill it! If you can save for a used Longines Spirit 40mm Titanium it's amazing

That Formex looks great. There’s a Boldr watch that looks similar but word around town is that Formexes are quite nice

I tried the Longines last year and it felt a bit big on my 17cm wrist (mostly because of the very long lugs). In general I can buy a more expensive watch if I really like one, but I just didn't see many options that were particularly appealing to me on the market. On the higher end I'm mostly thinking about a Pelagos of some sort.

I had totally missed that Mark XVIII had a titanium variant. I love fliegers in general.

Formex field. Much more interesting dial, it’s on my ‘like to buy list’.

·

I dare to say the SWC Bunker beats 99% of all mechanical field watches out there.

The fauxtina is a bit hard to get along with, but the nicest thing about this model is the fully lumed Arabics - for some reason it’s rare for IWC to lume their numerals. That was the clincher for me and made this a really solid field watch.

Fair enough. I want the 37mm stainless steel so I feel you.
