How loose do you wear your watch?

I was watching a video of Adam Savage, from Mythbusters, talk about his modded Seiko he just got and was re-sizing it. The end result seemed a bit loose to be, but he says he likes it a bit loose. Was wondering where everyone else lands on this. The video https://youtu.be/kkStlfDuFNE?si=LrLJYoC_TWEyzTzj

A & B? Wrist expansion means it wears either loose or a bit tight depending on temperature.

Makes sense. I guess it would depend on if your watch had on the fly micro adjustment to continue to have the ideal fit for the individual.

why is c so violent 😭

I have might wrist fit, not too tight not too loose

I mean I hope no one is wearing a watch like the picture in C 😱.

Yes it is nice when you have a watch that has a goldilocks fit 😍.

I wear it a little loose, but not to the point a finger can slide in. Enough if my wrist expand, it is fitted, but not to the point it feels it’s choking me.

My CW Dune has an on-the-fly micro adjustable bracelet (which is so useful I don't want another watch without this feature), so depending on how hot the room I am in is I can tighten or loosen it. I tend to wear it slightly loose-slightly tight depending on how I'm feeling.

·

I’m starting to fit them loose because wrist expansion is a real thing for me.

I find as long as the watch face can't leave the back of my wrist then you're all set. Once it has the movement where it could rotate fully around the wrist it's too loose for me.

·

I tend to prefer minimal movement so I wear mine a little tighter If the strap is comfortable enough. I don’t like when the watch slides up towards the ulnar notch on the wrist. I feel that looks a bit daft and can be annoying if you’re trying to glimpse at the time real quick.

A bit tighter (maybe a bit lighter than in picture B) but not so tight that angling my wrist (upon leaning at a table for example) makes the bracelet dig into my wrist.

That's why I ordered a half link from Uncle Straps for my SFJ001. Even with micro-adjustments it was either too loose or too tight since Seiko doesn't provide half links for their Speedtimers (and I really like the look of the bracelet).

C made me gag.

·

I want it to sit tight before the wrist bone, but it should not leave any mark on the skin. I really value micro-adjustments 😃

1% chose violence…

I would say somewhere in between A & B.

·

I like it just tight enough so that the watch doesn’t slip past the wrist bone. But as loose as it can be before that. Usually it still has some movement on my wrist and doesn’t leave marks and I can slip a finger between the band or bracelet.

·

I wear leather straps, for most of my watches, to the point where this is nearly a non-issue [because the leather band adjustment is done in a jiffy, you just put the watch on]. For example, I recently got my GS homage from Seestern, and instead of adjusting its (actually nice-looking) bracelet to my wrist size, I took it off entirely, and put the thing on leather.

Also quite a few of my vintage ebay finds came on elastic bracelets, and adjusting those (when they are too loose) puts the fear in man - I have seen youtube videos people doing it. One of my vintages therefore only gets worn on my right arm. My watchmaker does the adjustment of those for free (within reason), but I am inclined to use that generosity only sparingly - so far, once.

In between, as far as band adjustments go, are leather bands with deployment clasps. Initially I liked the idea behind it, putting less strain on the band to make it last longer; but I have grown to hate them, as the adjustment [if needed] is cumbersome enough to be a bother, and generally I find those less comfortable to wear than buckled bands - perhaps because I have a small wrist size.

I wear my watch a little loose, I don't like it to tip or turn

I like my watches to fit a little snug. None of this "pinky sliding in" stuff. Specially with top heavy watches like my Marathon JSAR 46mm. Gotta make sure that tank of watch is on there nice and tight now🤣🤣🤣🤣

·

A tiny bit loose.

A bit tight but my wrist swells up a lot so it starts loose in the day as im more active it gets tight. Id enjoy a on the fly micro adjust

·

Snug enough to not go past my wrist.

·

If it’s not cutting off circulation, it’s too loose for me, lol.

·

Between A & B.

I can force a pinky under it without any drama, but it's not leaving marks on my wrist.

·

Just loose enough to handle my wrist swelling after a trip into the summer heat or after a salty meal

·

I used to wear them a lot tighter. Now i dot it loose and got used to the watch moving around a bit. I decided to try it after seeing older guys discussing that it was the way it was suppose to wear before micro adjust was a thing. Leather strap tend to be worn tighter than bracelet in my experience now. As you dont have the weight of the bracelet keeping the watch head more or less in place.

·

Depends on the watch and the type of bracelet or strap, sometimes l like to be adventurous and let it flop around a bit 😄

·

I like it loose enough to wiggle around, but not a pinky loose 👌

·

A is the generally accepted proper fit.

But wear it as you will.
