Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tattoo - yea or nea?

Introducing – The New Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tattoo Acqua Limited Edition

Bulgari launched its Octo Finissimo collection in 2012, and ten years later, there’s little doubt about the already iconic status of the Octo Finissimo in modern watchmaking. The collection is full of complicated record-holding timepieces, and it is an excellent platform for horological wonders and collaboration. The watches made in cooperation with the Japanese architects […]

The Octo Finissimo has been a favorite of so many (including me) for so long that I follow the evolution of the series and am usually impressed with the results.  However, not so much in this case.

Here, I believe that the fluid graphics obscure the sharp angular shapes that make up the case, and anything that stands in the way of that masterful case is unwelcome.

If this were a regular production model, would it be on your shopping list ahead of the standard model?

This reeks of afterthought. The "artwork" and the physical object are totally uncomplimentary. Furthermore, it seriously destroys the upmarket look of the watch.

That would look really great for a 10 dollar watch.

Likely from my background as an architect, I’ve always felt this watch’s design (the original) reminded me of something that Tadao Ando might design with muted color (like concrete) and strong edges. I appreciated it for that reason - and this version effectively reminds me as if some one tagged those beautiful concrete surfaces. Just my two cents of course - I am sure others might love this as they see the blank surfaces as a canvas, versus how I love the simplicity of form which is now being obscured by someone else’s art.

·

Yes. It’s a Bvlgari, it gets a look in.

·

It's not my cup of tea. And I like tattoos and the original piece. Just not together it would seem.

·

Not for me. Not at all. The regular one would be my choice.

·

I came here to say that "no, you should not get a tattoo of a Bulgari".

·

Nah-ah

·

I like it in principle but it’s too difficult to read the time.  I would need bright hands and markers for me to consider it but I suspect that defeats the intent.

tl:dr. I think it’s cool but I wouldn’t buy it.

It's the "Bvlgari" tattoo that you want.

·

Is this serious? I'm thinking someone is having a joke here.

You sure this is real?

If so,...

Exactly.

When I first saw the watch, I asked myself, "Which company would I expect to make a watch like this?".  The answer is Invicta.

·

Nay. @horologuitarist already made my point. It's like some designers from Invicta broke into Bvlgari's watch studio in the dead of the night and draw over the designs and the poor fellows just went with it to save their skin.

Blergh.

·

I love octo, it’s so beautiful but this one not so much 😆

·

This hides everything that is great about the Octo...Guido Terreni would have never let this pass on his watch.  Pun absolutely intended.

·

Big no from me... Kind of destroys everything the octo series stands for. Sometimes it's good to mix things up, but here it's a real mess.
