Recommendations on 200m, white-dial watches

Hey, Gang.

I'm looking for a watch and could use your help.  This would be my boating/swimming watch with a white dial (for visibility), preferably no date window, and under $1,000.

So far my research has led me to the Boldr Safari GMT Tarangire ($500), the Raven Airfield ($500 on sale) and the Traska Free Diver ($600 pre-order).  Boldr seems the newest of the lot.  Raven seems to have the most history.  And Traska seems to have scratch resistance as a feature.

Any thoughts on these or other options?  Many thanks in advance.

Greg

The Raven in on my list, green dial.

·

Since you want good legibility, I would go with the Raven. The other two have white indices that could be difficult to read on the white dial, especially in the water. I like the look of all three watches, however.

Great advice on the legibility.

·

Christopher Ward generally can meet these kind of specs.

·

I try to give some options from swiss brands... ...because I don'  know your suggested brands/models 😅... but it isn't that easy 🤔

The Doxa SUB 200 checks almost all, but has a date window

Image

The Davosa Argonautic BG the same

Image

Only the Hamilton Khaki Navi seems ok, but not that white

Image

And all of them cost around 1000 bucks....

·

I'd recommend a used Oris Aquis, Formex Essence/Reef. Seiko has some good options too.

·

Islander ISL84 white dial no date excellent legibility. Very good price direct from Marc at Islander watch's. 199 us dollars . Though it's only 100 m wr . Enough to swim and boating I think.

·

lots of good suggestions. Couple more to consider.

Diver = Doxa.  Why not a Doxa 200? (Edit: Just realized @SwissMadeGuy already mentioned this)

Image

We all know Jacques Cousteau loved Doxa, but today, would he consider this French gem? Baltic Aquascaphe?

Under 1k I always recommend Christopher Ward, I owned a 38mm red bezel, now I own a 40mm all black, and it’s an incredible bang for the buck!

Image

This model is in preorder, if you have the time to wait, I think this is a great choice!

Oris Dat Watt is not white but could be interesting for its tide indication:

Or if you plan to be sub sea level a bit more than (again not white) this decompressor " omputer":

Mido Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 Turquoise Hands-On Review

Or ultimately if racing on the boat then any of the regatta timer watches from Aquastar / Omega or other (see one of the Omega's):

Hope this helps

It has a date window, and the dial is not quite white (it's MOP), but I think the Certina DS PH200M C036.207.18.106.00 is pretty much the perfect sub-$1K "I'm on a boat, motherfucker!" watch out there.

Take a look at Marathon.

Thanks so much.  I'm looking into all three.  The date window isn't a show stopper, and the Hamilton has a white face which is what I care about the most.

·

Any Sub-$1000 Seiko - SPB313, has date but barely noticeable.

Image

Baltic Aquascaphe - as others mentioned. Personally think it looks better on the tropic.

Image

Dan Henry 1975 Skin Diver - Auto or Quartz, no bracelet tho

Image

CW C60 - if you can live without the bracelet is under $1000, and I think looks sharp on the rubber strap. Also has date, but at least in the superior 6 position.

Good luck.👍

·

Those are 3 nice watches. My personal favorite has to be the Raven in terms of aesthetics, but the Traska is unparallel in durability. Too bad you don't want a date window, cuz then I believe the Citizen Promaster Diver would be the ideal choice for under 500 bucks, let alone 1000. But I can see the Hamilton Khaki Navy also being a good option.

·

I like the look of the Traska !

How about the new Spearfish GMT from Zelos? There are still some white dial versions available, which look cool with a nice textured dial (I picked up a meteorite dial when it launched; they sold out in 6 mins!). Only issue with it in my eyes is the legibility of the light blue GMT hand, but the main hands are very clear and easy to read. Although at the high end of your budget, I can vouch for Zelos quality. Worth a look!

$50 and you will break before it will.  Use it while actually boating and swimming.

You can spend $950 on watch for date night after said boating and swimming...

How to Remove Scratches From Any Watch Crystal - Maxim

No buffing required...

On a more serious note, I am an idiot as I have managed to lose a watch swimming, break a watch swimming (actually three, my watches don't enjoy water in them) and at least one chipped crystal boating.  My watchmaker and I are on a first name basis and I give her christmas presents...

Love that video.  My wife is not thrilled that I've got our 10yo daughter singing it.

Love it!  I had a few Timex and they have served me incredibly well.  The Expedition is one of my favorites.

Thanks so much for this suggestion!  I had not heard of Panzera before - beautiful watches!

My poor kids are going to have to listen to me singing that song the next time we go out on our boat (which is smaller than the dinghy on the video!)

You are all awesome!  I counted 35 different suggestions and I appreciate them all.  I love the range of styles, sizes, movements and prices.  Most played by the sub $1K range & 200m, and I appreciate the "stretch' watches (even though my wallet & wife won't . .)

As a thank you, here is a list of the 35 watches with their URLs and retail prices.  I have this in a Word doc and I'm trying to figure out how to upload the file to my profile or this post. DM me if you want me to email it to you.  Lots to think about. Thanks again!

Gang, thank you again for all your insight!  I will forever remember this as the "I'm on a boat mother fucker!" watch search thanks to @tesseraic.

I ended up going with the Vaer C5 40mm Quartz watch.  @moemoe's advice (joking or not) that a more affordable watch leaves me more for date nights resonated with me.  At $239 (20% discount off the $299), two straps (one leather), 10ATM of "guaranteed" waterproof-ness, and a super clear dial sold me on this watch.

Image

The Christopher Ward C60 Trident with rubber strap was a very close runner-up.  I see this in my collection at some point!

Thank you to this amazing group of watch enthusiasts!

The Traska will be available for purchase tomorrow morning, I think 10 am. I am looking at this exact one. The scratch resistant coating is a great feature on a tool watch. I like the retro feel in the style, but it is a bit plain.

·

The BOLDR Safari GMT is an excellent watch. Check out the video review:
