Should I pull the trigger?

This year I have achived biggest milestone in my career and life sofar, so I would like to give myself a present.

I have been in love with GMT master 2 pepsi and have put my name since last year in my local AD. However as we all know, Iwont get the call any time soon.

On the other side I have been eyeing Explorer 2 white dial (my third choice after submariner) and I found a great price in grey marke in unworn condition.

I tried on the black dial today and would like to hear your opinion about it size and my decision in general.

DON’T do it! Not yet, I mean. I completely understand your frustration with the AD and your real desire to get the darned watch - boy, don’t we all?

But seriously, grabbing something that just isn’t quite ‘it’ or is down the list is going to bug and eventually disappoint you. I speak from sad experience.

Hang on and slow down a bit if you can?

I’m sure that the milestone watch will come without compromise and you’ll be doubly pleased.

Congratulations on your successes! 😃

It's fine size-wise but buy it for what it is and because you are really excited about this particular watch. It's not a BLNR, Sub or white dial Explorer which is what you really want. If you truly want something else, don't buy this ust because you think this will fill the desire for those other watches. That's a good way to end up disappointed and still craving those other watches. Then you've got a watch you don't truly love or wear. At least you'd get your $ back but the potential hassle of selling still hangs over your head

Do it! Treat yourself!

·

I think you should get the watch you love, even if it takes forever. Don’t settle.

·

Sounds like a great occasion to get a watch! The Explorer II is such a cool watch, but have you considered looking at a neo vintage 16710 or 16610? I always think it’s best to go for the one you want the most and not “compromise” when the purchase is already this big :)

·

Life occasions are rare, if this hits the wicket, then yes I would go for an Explorer II. The time you will enjoy and remember the event via the watch will not come back - and to put a Rolex AD allotment in charge of your happiness is something I would argue against. Be happy now, enjoy life and make memories now.

To your specific question of fit, yes it fits and will look amazing.

·

Patience is the name of the game! Got a call from the AD for yacht master with blue dial. Decided to pass instead aiming for the slate dial. Buy what you love and don’t follow the hurd. These timepieces are pricy.

·

You said it yourself, its your third choice. Wait for the one you want.

·

Why no get a Pepsi off the grey Market. If your here asking us you know the answer. When I place a watch on my wrist it’s yes or no. Only You can answer this and be satisfied with your choice

·

I think an important thing to consider is if you buy the Explorer II, will you be regretting not waiting for the GMT Master II? Since this is a big milestone in your career/life, you wouldn’t want to remember it as a watch that makes you wish you had the other one. However, if you feel like this watch would check the box of commemorating this successful milestone and won’t have any feeling of regret, I would totally do it. The Explorer II is definitely a watch worthy of being a trophy.

·

Bobs Watches is my preferred method for Rolex. Sure it costs more, but it is the way I enjoy buying things: transparent price and available stock.

For such an important milestone, I say don't settle.

·

Absolutely would suggest you to wait… don’t compromise on your milestone watch!

·

You have excellent taste. All 3 in that order!

·

Hold out, or pay to get what you want.

I’m not a Rolex fan but am a firm believer of waiting or springing for the grail not the ‘good enough grail’

·

YES!

·

Explorer II WHITE DIAL!!!!!!

YES

·

It’s number 3 in your list maybe number 4 because you prefer the white dial Ex 2 - If you want a GMT Wait until the right watch comes along and save your money for now

·

Wait white. I know the explorer 2 white dail is easy to sell second hand market. Black I think u would have difficulty selling it off

·

I had the RE2 black dial and it was great. However, for me, it looked a tad out of proportion due to the fat hands. I traded it in for a ceramic no date sub and I adore it. Classic/original no date, clean and very legible.

I personally prefer the Explorer II so I’d do it, but it sounds like you would not be satisfied with it

·

I love my Explorer II black. But I think you should wait for GMT. Other than sharing the same movement they are very different watches.

·

I’d hold out. You clearly want the gmt2 the most, getting something instead just doesn’t cut it.

KoreanAllfather

Are you able to share what the achievement/milestone is?! Whatever it is, either way, congratulations! As for the watch, I think you should get either of the 3 you have in mind instead of this black dial, which didn't make it into your list...?!

It is accumulations of multiple achievements. Some of them are long awaited promotion and my 10th year of moving abroad.

Do It.

·

I love the Explorer II and it’s a less glitzy affair than the Batman (or Pepsi) — this makes it an ideal daily wearer. I’m normally not an advocate for settling but I’m also aware that any GMT Master is extremely difficult to get at retail so, while I don’t think you should settle, if you’ve been waiting a while and want to mark the occasion then the Explorer II is not a bad option…just be aware that on wrist they are very different watches so I wouldn’t consider them substitutes.

Here you go, similar angle, slender 6.75” wrists. The Explorer II is a large watch but still wears surprisingly well.

The Explorer II looks absolutely stunning, but as others have mentioned, you should definitely wait until the right time or try looking for your grail watch from other sources. There's nothing like finally getting your grail watch 😉 SwissWatchExpo has great options for the Rolex Pepsi and I highly recommend them. https://www.swisswatchexpo.com/search/?q=rolex+pepsi
