Rado

I was wondering why nobody mentions Rado in Europe or America or generally any watch enthusiast aside from my home country Pakistan. I have seen alot of Rado here in Pakistan alot of fakes and original ones too and they are often stereotyped aswell but my question is why nobody looks at Rado and why isn't it recognised and is the brand good or bad??

They either disappeared completely or dramatically shrank their market presence in the USA for a number of years. But, Swatch Group reinvigorated them a few years back with the retro-inspired reissues, most notably the Captain Cook, which have proven to be popular.

That was probably necessitated by Swatch Group’s other brands moving upmarket.

Now, the Macy’s department stores carry Rado, but they still have a good bit of catching up to do from the time they were dormant. Outside of the retro watches, I don’t know that Rado is doing very well in the USA.

Rado and Mido are a very popular brands in Mexico but for me there is only one model of Rado that i like the Capitan Cook I practically don't like any other model, neither the Diastar nor the horse nor any other model.

·

I've really only seen Rado at Macy's, maybe one other AD. Even then it isn't much, maybe a few Captain Cooks or a Golden Horse. The Diastar has a unique design that seems polarizing, so it makes sense it isn't stocked as much.

I like mine, lovely watch 👍

Rado has been around the international tennis scene for a while now. Also they are known for using a lot of ceramic. The only rado I am familiar with is the captain cook.

U should learn more about them.

·

It is because of Swatch Groups brand strategy. Rado, Mido, Certina and even Longines are typical brands for regional sales strategies. However here in Germany all of them are famous and can ve found easily at most of the jewelery stores.

I think owning four of them is enough for right now. LOL

·

As someone else mentioned, Swatch Group seems to have a regional focus for some of their brands. Rado, Certina, and Mido aren't pushed as hard in Canada and the US as Hamilton, Tissot, and Longines.

·

They tried a few times to gain popularity in Hawaii, but finally on the third attempt (Valentines Day no less) the locals weren't having it and decided they had enough dive watches and they were never to be heard of again.

(History jest, as several others pointed out, regional strategies)

I saw the place where it happened... Sad tale.

Expensive and weird, basically. I can’t speak to the quality but a friend and I were just discussing this and he feels they have a specialized clientele and don’t care about the broader market. I have no idea what to think.

·

I love their designs. I would buy a Capt Cook if it came in a brushed case finish. The ceramic is to die for. They have several other models I like. I’m put off, however, by the spinny logo.

·

You're right. And there are a TON of good brands out there no one in watchdom discusses which is baffling but not surprising.

For me, Rado’s watches are technically impressive and very much are reflective of the brand, but its offerings of more conventional looking watches feel slim to me. For me, the Captain Cook and especially the Golden Horse are much more my style.

As well, Rolex, Tag Heuer, and Breitling were top dogs here for so long. Rolex is the aspirational brand in the United States. Iirc, it’s 40% of the US watch market. And then you had Breitling and Tag Heuer, transformed for a new era of wristwatches for the 1990s and aughts as the more attainable luxury offerings. And of course Hamilton is a US brand, so we like that. And Longines was another of the entry level luxury, but i don’t know much about them.

Rado is very popular in India several of our Indian vendor's top management wear them. I believe they are the Rolex of India. I always wear my Rado for those meetings.

Ouch. I’m gonna lose this badge for sure.

My captain cook was gorgeous and un scratchable. Comfy against skin and zero thermal conductivity meant comfort in extreme cold (unlike steel!). Ceramic feels so good to touch.

Accurate and excellent movement

Downsides : unimpressive lume (well, it’s like all Swiss divers 🙄) and integrated bracelet that I had issues sizing. I wear my watches tight on my 15cm wrist and could get a perfect fit with the butterfly clasp. Sadly, I eventually had to sell it.
