Worst Takes of the Watch World
What are the WORST takes that you have ever heard in relation to watches?
Let me preface this by saying that I understand everything is subjective - collect for yourself, right? I respect that.
But I was reading this article recently and it really threw me for a loop:
At the risk of sounding extremely haughty and pretentious, I understand if people prefer one watch brand over another.
However, since this article claims to be a “comprehensive guide that will make you a watch expert in no time,” I can’t possibly justify some of the rankings in this article. JLC is the worst? Breitling is better than Omega? Baume et Mercier over Vacheron? Really?
What do you guys think? Is this list a terrible take on the luxury watch world? What’s the worst one you have ever heard?

That site seems questionable at best and I get the sense "articles" like that (article being generous) are mostly meant as a kind of click bait.

Should I sell off my collection to get a few Baumé and Mercers?
Baume&Mercier might be one of the best deals around. I have no time for the article discussed but have been around a few watchmakers during my decades in the hobby and most of the old school guys always praise the brand. My regular multi brand ad here in Toronto sells most of the brands that enthusiasts shop for including a handful of high horology such as Journe, Moser and Ferrier etcetera. The young owner knows that I am a fan of certain complications but also that I do not exactly have regular buying habits: B&M are launching a Riviera with a perpetual calendar, salmon dial limited to 50 worldwide, he has no idea how many will be sent to Canada but his family owned business with 2 locations in the GTA expect to receive at least one. I am one of a few customers who have expressed interest in the watch which will retail for about 24k cad plus tax which is a lot for a B&M but not for a perpetual calendar based on their in house movement.
Should I sell off my collection to get a few Baumé and Mercers?

10 to 1 this is either a Millennial or one of those lovely up-and-coming Gen Zer's. Either way, the author, a Ms. Kendra Bruning, doesn't know her ass from first base. And that's sugar coating it.
