I think the "now really want" part of your title should not need to be said out loud. Like, is there an undesirable Credor? (Even their more... tacky ones are awesome; now I only need to be hundred-millionaire to own them)

It's not bad, but uncompelling.

I mean, the movement is capable (I don't understand all those "movement underwhelming" comments; a $2k Swiss made watch would merely sport an ETA or equivalent, and Miyota 9 series can take on these comfortably). This being Citizen, I am sure it's well finished. So not bad.

But nothing special. At that price level, their EcoDrive watches offer so much more. That price also approaching King Seiko range, which offer a much more distinctive styling and better movements. Finally, Germany and and Switzerland also have multiple compelling options (competition of $1.5-$3k range is fierce).

I personally feel like dial is the 2nd most underrated part of modern watches (case being the most underrated). That is lovely dial. Is it painting enamel or just miniature painting?

commented on Controversy topic: Watches don’t have to be expensive to be special or make you a “real” collector. ·

A while ago, someone (read: don't remember whom) suggested that we should have interactive watch museums, sort of like we have interactive science museums.

You see, I agree with you, your collection, your taste.

However, it's also true that luxury watches being certain values to the table. These values can't simply be obtained at lower prices. Well, not if we want the staff to have middle class love. seriously, if a watch takes 50 hours to finish, it would cost pretty penny even if it's produced in Pakistan (no idea how true it is, but I punch in "cheapest country to live in" and Pakistan pops up). Again, we are talking about skilled labor at the least efficiency here.

Yes, Casio makes awesome watches (so do Citizen, my fav). But what do Rolex and IWC and Patek do (I seriously throw out random names) that justify their products? What do those dollars and francs and euros pay for?

It's kinda like art and painting. Sure, I love these paintings my sister makes. I hang them at home. I also love looking at painting on the screen. But I can tell you this: neither is comparable to my view of Liberty Leading the People in person. Now, I love that painting on the screen. But it's just so much more in person. Also, it's big, in a good way. The emotions and dynamic jumped at me. (Side note: I hated just about everything else in Paris during that trip, and Mona Lisa in person in a meh, even without the massive line, so it's not a tourist pink goggle; seeing some true art that you love in person is just that great)

Long response to say that, "I agree, just beware." You know the usual saying "it's a $200 watch that looks like $2000"? The thing about that line is that there has to be an anker for a watch costing $2000.

And it would be really lovely if we can experience it without, you know, actually having to own it. I don't mind paying the admission fee. But the price tag can be ridiculous

commented on Rolex Chronergy vs Omega Coaxial - real world out of box precision? ·

Re co-axial: lower friction means the movement can in theory run at higher rate with same energy consumption. In that case, the higher rate should allow for better performance.

Obviously, key word here is theory.

I do want to try mechaquartz, though.

That said, with radio/satellite time sync, a solar quartz is basically the best time keeper on the wrist, may even be better than smartwatch

commented on WHAT I BOUGHT IN JANUARY! ·

Ai. My January has been so weird...

After like years of laziness, I finally restarted enameling. I told myself, hey, I can totally do a watch dial.

Goodness, art and craft are expensive! Between setting up my working space (also, craft and metal work are freaking hard to find good space, especially when you live in a multi family unit), supplies, failures (yep, too much zinc will ruin your enamel; by the by, I hate zinc; so many restriction), I swear I spent something like 4 watches, and have none!

And so close too. I finally got to a smooth, deep black base (I still say this: nothing can prepare you for a grand feu enamel depth). Well, writing in glass frit sucks, and about a week worth of work went down the drain... (Have I mentioned that when the dial enters the kiln, there is no return?)

Sign.

Let's hope February is better.
