What can't you pull the trigger on, and why?

We all have watches we just can't pull the trigger on. The reasons why, are many.

For me, it's the Seiko Sumo 'Noosa' edition.

On the surface, this one ticks so many boxes for me:

1) I love Seiko

2) I don't own - and never have owned - a Sumo

3) It looks great

4) It's limited to 1000 pieces which, for Seiko, is conservative

5) 'Noosa' is a great holiday spot, here in Australia

6) It hasn't sold particularly well, and can be had for over $500 Aussie dollarydoos off RRP any day of the week - sometimes even more. I've seen crazy deals.

But... I can't do it. I look at my watchbox and there's already four solid divers in there. When I'm wearing one, I'm not wearing the other three. Can I really make that a scenario where, when I'm wearing one, I'm not wearing the other four?

It must sound crazy, in an environment where some buy watch after watch after watch after watch, but as much as I love this Seiko, and there are solid reasons to buy it... I just can't.

What can't you pull the trigger on, and why?

I can’t pull the trigger on all the watches…cause I value my life 🤣

The price is reasonable

I love white straps

Squale has amazing heritage

I've been looking specifically for a pink watch

The embossed bezel is so cool

I've a list of reasons to buy it, but instead I've bought a Cartier and a Seiko. Why? Who knows?

You should, I impulse bought a sumo and I'm happy as a clam with it.

·

Is selling one of your four out of the question? That could be the justification for the sumo.

·

It's 3x the price of the best watch I own. That kind of money opens a lot of interesting doors and options. Yet I come back to this...I want it - but the horses are pulling me back.

I hear what you're saying, and have considered it before today. The four divers are a Casio Duro, a Seiko Turtle, a Yema Superman, and an Omega Seamaster 300 Diver. The only logical candidate is the Turtle, as the Yema is a bronze edition that I don't want to lose as it's my only bronze watch, but I love the Turtle's colours (it's the only true all-green Turtle; a JDM model from a few years back), so... I'm stuck! :)

Gotta keep the Squale on the list…really fun color combo

That’s a tough one! Maybe the duro, but then your two seikos would be competing! That is quite a quandary you have there.

·

A tudor divewatch. I like the original pelagos the most but i have yet to fully accept that hideous blunt snowflake hand 😄

Things i love about it: titanium, lumed bezel, heritage, overall design (except for the hour hand)

·

Its the font on the bezel for me with this sumo. There is another version where the bezel is different, and I'm trying to avoid it. Other watches I'm trying to stay away from is the Tudor BBPro GMT; trying to foil my saving plans (in a good way) for something from the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation.

But the Duro is so cheap, and such an excellent watch to wear when a low-end diver is required, that getting rid of it seems a bit crazy to me. It's a very versatile watch. And I really love wearing it!

·

Follow your heart, get another diver watch, collecting has no limits 😂

I have two Turtles, a regular SRP777 and Save the Ocean SRPH59, and a baby tuna (?) SRP653k1. Since selling gifts isn’t very ethical, I’m kinda “diver’d up” 😂😂😂 but I do rotate them as best as I can. Oh, and if Orient Ray II is a diver then there’s that too (but this one I bought)

·

I would only pull the trigger on a parts list now.

·

Tudor Pelagos Blue Dial and this...

Nice watch. I'd pull the trigger.

·

Struggling to pull the trigger on the VC 222. Mostly a financial issue. In that I will never, ever be able to afford it.

To be honest, the reasons you listed above wouldn’t move me to buy that particular watch, it’s not compelling enough.

If you already have 4 divers, keep it moving and stop letting this watch live in your head rent free.

You don't like the reasons? Great. I guess that's why I'm me, and you are you, right?

Speaking of moving on...

·

Sometimes you just have to ignore all rationale and JUST DO IT!

The point I’m making is, I don’t think you like the reasons you listed either, otherwise you would have picked up the watch.

Find a reason that makes sense to you, and I’m pretty sure it will find your way into your watch box.

Just quietly, I know what's going on in my head better than you. All of the reasons I listed are actually quite compelling to me - no matter what you seem to want to want me to be thinking instead - but, as a rational kind of guy, I just can't justify having a fifth diver. Hence the conflict of compelling reasons versus not needing another diver. Cos if they weren't compelling, there wouldn't be conflict in the first place would there? So I made a thread about it. If you don't want to join in with your own example, maybe jog on?

Seems you’re getting a bit antsy and testy. Im chiming in, with an opinion and thoughts based on your post - which is the reason for an open forum. If you can’t have a discusssion without getting “hurt” perhaps the internet is not for you. ✌🏼

·

Are you trying to say it's nor like pokemon, you gotta catch em all 😂

Get what you like the look & feel of, see what you end up not wearing and sell it on 👍

So if I have this right, you're not engaging with the topic of the thread and instead are telling me how I should think. When I call you on it - with the very reasonable premise that I know my own mind best - your best is come up with the snide comment above? That's it? No problem. Welcome to my block list.

Just add the Sumo. Look at it this way, Yolo and it's a 1/1000. Wear it or don't, it's a reasonably limited piece. Get a larger watch box and carry on.... for I too have had these conversations with myself, lol

·

I try to wear all my watches. Right now, I have about 30 pieces in my collection. As such, if I rotate the pieces everyday, on the average, I only wear each watch once a month or 12 times a year. Not very good. So I have consciously decided to downsize my collection to 15 and then 12 pieces. Now all I do is sell sell sell

·

Money money money money 😂

·

Oh I hear you …for me it’s the JLC master ultra thin.

I love it but can’t seem to justify the cost per use, cause I’d wear it few times a year for a New Year’s party or a funeral.

So for now the safety is fully engaged, and no trigger is getting pulled anytime soon.

I can't pull the trigger on the Accutron Spaceview 2020, despite the fact that I was an early adopter of Accutron back in the 1960's and was heartbroken when they stopped producing in the next decade. Now that they're back with a vengeance, I can't pull this particular trigger because it would put me some $3k backwards in my quest for a Grand Seiko White Birch.
