Greetings!

I'm writing this midst of writer's block, which I look forward to get through after this piece of rambling gets finished.

I generally prevent myself from being unhealthily obsessed with the objects I own. Cameras and audio peripherals stayed strictly (maybe not strictly, I can be weak for withstanding the materialistic indulgences from owning stuff) within the realm of being mere "tools."

Watches shattered this feeble stance of mine. It's now "THE hobby" among all my hobbies (if I could still financially sustain any after this, that is). Those enclosed, self-sustaining mechanical contraptions with their almost hilariously unnecessary complexity in a world where dead precise time can be readily available for almost anyone anywhere, appears to be the embodiment of our ability to create value from our seemingly meaningless existence. For that, I'm wholeheartedly allowing myself to be indulged.

This would be a horrible introduction under any circumstances, so here's something fun or awkward. I bought my first watch box only for my Apple Watch straps due to my insatiable desire to keep things organized. This very desire also ended up making me eagerly wanting to fill the space watch straps haven't yet taken over of that very watch box with, you guessed it, actual watches.

The Seiko LM 5606-7330T is my very first mechanical piece. As a tight college student, I thought I'll never going to get anything over 500 bucks, but here I am, still a college student, but a less financially responsible one.

I would be pleasantly glad if anyone actually made it this far. I'm certainly out of that writer's block. Can't express how much I look forward to knowing more of you.

Nice watch! Lord Matics are awesome and they pack one hell of a punch. Definitely one of the better vintage Seikos to collect in terms of value for money. Lord Marvels and certain watches from the Seikomatic series are also great under the radar vintage options.

I happen to own a 5216-8020 LM Special. A 28,8000 bph chronometer grade watch with dial work and zaratsu polishing on par with Grand Seikos and King Seikos from the same time period. It even blows a lot of modern Seikos out of the water. All for less than 430 USD!

Would not mind hearing more about cameras or audio peripherals, either!

Absolutely glad to see such an immaculate LM! It's fascinating how this case style looks almost exactly the same as Grand Seiko's 8000 case. LM has this magic of retaining almost all the essence of a GS, its dial texture and gem-like case geometry, while costing less than half as much.

I'm now obsessed with LM's 7000 series case. They have this retro-futuristic pillow-style case with a diamond-like geometry and radial brushed finish, a bit like the Tokyo Lion from modern GS. Their values are simply unbelievable!

Excellent introduction, great photo and Welcome!

Welcome to the Crunch! I loved your sentiment on collecting, very well said.

Welcome to watchcrunch. That Seiko, though a lovely watch it is, seems an odd choice as part of a student's watch collection. As an only-watch it makes sense, but otherwise that seems to indicate a 45-year-old trapped in a student's body.

Way back when I was a student there was no way I could afford a $500 watch - that would have been twice my annual budget for lunch at the cafeteria.

Sounds like the guy saved up his money for the one classy thing he likes in college. Sounds legit to me.

I'm a bit of an oddball in terms of attire and aesthetic preferences among my fellow 20s it appears...

Though this specific piece only cost me about $130 from a Japanese gentleman on eBay. Took a bit of risk back then. It had its crystals recently replaced at the time of purchase and has been keeping relatively good time throughout my ownership. Amature's luck I guess.

Welcome to watchcrunch. We are all oddballs here.. now get crunching!!

Hello there!

I really wish #seiko would bring back the #lordmatic line. They'd certainly get a few $$ from me!

Who was expecting them to bring back King Seiko? You never know, as long as the vintage trend (smaller case sizes, mid century design cues) continue to be popular it might happen. Now we just need them to put decent calibres inside the damn things...

The LM came without any strap, bracelet, or even spring bars so I had to source that myself. I just got an inexpensive beads of rice bracelet off eBay for about 30 bucks. It's surprisingly decent quality.

Presage lines are probably filling this semi-luxury segment LM used to occupy. But they just lack the crisp simplicity and elegance LM strick me with. I guess that's exclusive for GS now 💸

That’s a well needed read! Apparently the creative license Iacking from my journalism works doesn’t necessarily spell absolute freedom…
