Help Me Pick My Next Watch

I don’t have a ton of money to spend, so I’ve whittled it down to these four. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

For some reason I can’t vote. If you had posted this yesterday I would have voted the Seiko Presage, but there is an earlier post on this thread that shows the Baltic and… WOW. I’d vote the Baltic.

I just took delivery of this Seiko Presage today-

The dial is gorgeous! They have a nice variety of colors too.

The Baltic is beautiful but I don't love that movement. The last one I had in hand was really loud...to the point where I thought it might have a QC issue and ended up returning it.

You made this way too easy...Baltic all the way.

Mine was supposed to be delivered today...but still no delivery date from DHL...what is wrong with that company...one of the worst.

I'll just have to continue the anticipation...

I went for it on the bracelet instead of the strap...you can always strap it later...

The Baltic is nice but it never managed to be nice enough to push me to buy one.

The Hamilton is not very practical and remind me how much it's sold new? Yeah right. Definitively not worth it (for me).

The Seiko Presage is a Seiko. For some it's enough to justify placing it on the top of the list but after my disenchantment with their newer models I need them to do better than just be Seiko.

The Max Bill Bauhaus is the best of the bunch. I should know since I own one. But I can't say that it's an affordable watch and despite my efforts to wear it as a daily watch I also don't find it very good at multitasking (what some refers to as GADA).

I'm a fan of Junghans for their versatility, it's an elegant watch, but with a different strap, in perlon for example, it becomes much more casual, the design is a timeless classic and that splash of red gives it a modern touch, if I had to choose just one I wouldn't have any doubts.

Seiko and Baltic are beautiful but more dressy and I would use them less, only on special occasions.

You filled the red dial spot with fumè Presage. Nice choice 👌🏽

Thank you! I am getting the bracelet sized today and can’t wait to get it on wrist! 😍

From offers above I voted for Junghans but to give better answer it would be good to know your current collection state and what for is the new watch being used.

The Baltic is beautiful but I don't love that movement. The last one I had in hand was really loud...to the point where I thought it might have a QC issue and ended up returning it.

As well as the initial quality of the movement, there's also the question of watchmakers' willingness to work on it and parts availability. As it's a Chinese movement with no Western distribution I would assume no parts or long term support. That's fine if you're only planning on wearing the watch for 5-10 years and then scrapping it. Alternatively you could buy a spare Hangzhou movement now off Ali Express and keep it in reserve as a future parts donor. Also, if you can get it serviced it's likely to cost more because of the complexity of the micro rotor. Servicing my Buren/Hamilton with micro rotor by someone who knows what they're doing costs about $70 more than a conventional auto.

Personally I'd go with Seiko or the Junghans instead to avoid all those issues.

I'd pick the Baltic. Actually I DID pick it and it just arrived this week 🙂

I was smitten when I first saw the design online. It looks just fantastic on the wrist, but as some have pointed out, it feels a little light when you pick it up, and while I don't mind, the rotor can be a little loud sometimes. But those looks! And it's not like anything else in my collection.

That said, all of those are great choices. Enjoy!

They are all such different watches. The only thing they really have in common is a strong sense of design. I have the Baltic and love it. Gorgeous to look at, it keeps good time so far and is one of the few watches I take off just to look at the back. Yes, it is a little loud in absolute silence but doesn’t register with even light background noise. The Junghans is on my to do list. I want that super clean and orderly Bauhaus design. It helps quiet my mind.

Of the four that are up there, I'd go Baltic. However, you might want to look at Glycine on Ashford.com and see if there's anything there that strikes your fancy. You may be able to get more watch for less money.
