Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel time in steel.
I just love it.
I do have this watch minus the travel time component. But it’s such a useful complication it would be the icing on the cake.
Still a Timex 35mm Easy Reader T20041 for something like $30-40, which has ten year battery, day, date, and Indiglo. I guess I'd have to find some two piece olive RAF band, because one color leather won't do and I don't need straps adding height.
I have it. It's a tad larger than I'd like but it's okay. It always looks right, it works, it does all I need. It's quartz do it doesn't have some awful glass case back.
One watch? Forever? You made it very easy for me to form an instant decision.
The incomparable Casio G-Shock GW-M5610U on a combi-bracelt.
Price? Less than it cost me to fill up a the fuel tank in my car.
Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra. Dress it up or down. 150M water resistance if you care for that. Available in a bunch of different dial colors, though blue or black would be most versatile.

My Casio Oceanus - covers all the bases and really comfortable.
Thought I was mad to spend this much on a Casio but love it.
jot the names for uttering vile horological heresy
One watch to rule them all, eh? My Dievas Marine Mojave, I guess. More WR than I really need, a workhorse movement, comfortable on my wrist and because I already have it.
I don't have a decent photo of it, but possibly my SARB017. I love it, very robust and and can do sports and be 'dressed up', however I really struggle to take my BB58 OG off my wrist. Photos pending friends!
Owning one watch is NOT a collection. And I’m struggling to pick just one. Sorry I’ve failed this assignment.

If it's a watch in my current collection it might be the Seiko SARB033.
If it's any watch there are so many options. I would have to be a black dial, on a bracelet, with 100M WR and more than likely 40mm or less in case diameter. Off the top of my head, I think of the Rolex GMT Master II 16710 on a jubilee.
Today, it would be this beauty from Felipe Pikullik, the Sternenhimmel.

This is hard. My Speedy I guess. Or a datejust. But please let me swap bracelets/straps :D

Another vote for the Rolex Explorer. If I wanted to be a bit dressier the JLC Master Control calendar chronograph
Omega aqua terra, blue dial, stainless steel. The dial finish, movement, bracelet, it’s all killer.
Great option
I went almost a year owning only an omega globemaster. I can see myself doing that again. I miss that watch
Love this
Seamaster 300. Have barely taken it off the wrist since I got it.
Great option

A more realistic option for me would be the tissot gentleman in a blue dial.
It kind of ends up the same as the question of the best GADA watch.
I don’t have one in my collection and have no need for one either. However if it’s going to be one watch for all occasions it would be a Sinn 556.
If the choice was a beater watch and another watch the answer would be different.
Already have it. My Rolex Date model 15210.
82 Comments later, hare's the the top 5 list of the most mentioned brands/watches:
we're a clannish group apparently!
If it's a dream watch (i.e.- don't own):
Elliot Brown Beachmaster, $2,523 US
Strap part I'd fail. I'd want to alternate between the stainless and tropic rubber.
Why? It has a countdown bezel (my fav), has a mission timer and/or GMT function, good WR/Lume/etc, closer to the ideal 40/20 size. Decent shock protection for an auto.
If it's one I have now:
Lorier Neptune SIII, $499
Strap part, fail again since I'd rotate through a ton of options.
Why? It's what my wife bought for me after doing her own research on what dream watches I like and talk to her about, then balancing those against our budget which we could afford. Then she got it engraved with a special saying. (Basically she's a keeper IMO)
Don't know if this passes the authors test of one tho lol...
Thank you, my kind friend! 🍻

F.P. Journe Bluette
I don’t think I can answer this question.
F P Journe ANYTHING
I DID do the one watch thang for about a decade. And that watch was a Rolex Sub 16610. It sufficed in every role...from actually scuba diving to under the cuff in a tux when I was performing. I sold it when prices got stupid. But if I could only have one watch, that most likely would be the one.
