I Have an Upcoming Camping Trip,

Which watch should I wear? There will probably be some beachfront activity and if it's not icy out I plan on getting wet (with water, not booze), and grillin and chillin. These youtubers have me out here (subconsciously) wondering if Hardlex is up to the task even tho that would give me a reason to...Bris! Get back to the...OK! OK! What should I go with?

The diver will be your best watch for all conditions.

Any watch would work, camping isn't particularly hard on watches. I might avoid rubber/silicone straps if you need to wear bug spray... bug spray eats straps, particularly the old-school 97% DEET stuff that used to get issued here in Canada.

That's a good point I hadn't considered. Thanks.

Usually it involves some sort of firewood prep, and grease. And fire.

So probably no metal bracelet and now no silicone. 🤔

Edited "pint" to "point". Gave up drinking a while ago.

NATO straps are perfect for camping, disposable if you buy them cheap enough and they get nasty with bug spray and sunscreen.

My camping watch is always a G-shock.

·

WTF is NADA, outside of car prices- does this mean no watch?

·

Definitely would take a diver or any G-Shock

·

I think it is an Espanol word and not an analagram.

·

G-Shock, easily.

·

You know, G-Shock or Diver are both great choices. They'll meet your needs and finish the job.

I'm rather new to watches. A few years in. I'm still not entirely sure what the point of field watches is. Like, a diver can do literally all the same stuff but is more water resistant and durable. I've tried to find a good article or video explaining it, but nothing's really broken through my ignorance yet. Some look cool, sure, but I wish I understood the "why" better.

Where are you going camping? What was the field watch created for? For whom was the original field watch created for? What were their activities back then? Are their activities similar to yours? These are more rhetorical questions hehe

I'm new to watches also, but I think a field watch is interesting because it's thinner than a dive watch, it doesn't have a bezel so less moving parts to get dirt in, it's still super legible, and it can get wet (not like a dive watch, but still). I prefer the look of field watches in general, I find them more understated.

·

Field watch if 100m WR. If not, diver.

·

Wear a Casio Duro and buy a new strap after you finish camping. Enjoy!

·

Go with your gut here and put the memories on a watch you’ll appreciate being attached to the occasion.

·

Would be interesting to have an idea of what would be each watch.

I tend to say field (if it has decent WR, not an old SNK).

But the timing bezel of the diver is really practical if you want to time the food old school way.

Would go titanium which is less sensible to heat.

So RZE line-up, Zelos Ti or the Islander Ti might be the killer watch for this

But nothing would do it better than a G-Shock

You need a G-Shock mudmaster.

Doesn't matter which G-Shock. My daughter just wore my G-Shock at horse camp. She got kicked by a horse, and both daughter and watch are fine.

I'm glad your daughter is ok!

·

I probably should have made it clear I am not going out to buy a watch just for this, I forgot the bunch I've queried! Thanks for all of the suggestions thus far. I may make this a reason to swap in a sapphire crystal on my field watch 🤔

I usually don't respond to vulgarity but I'll use this as a teaching moment to help you on your quest anyway.

National Association of Dive...uh, Aristocrats!

No watch. 😶

I would say that since family's in tow, this is between glamping and extreme. I'd love a bushcrafty, survivaly, wait.

I was homeless so I guess I've already done that.

I'm glad my watch is ... just kidding. 😉

Camping trip and possible beach time?

Timex tide/temp/compass watch is the perfect match.

That thing looks sweet!

I've decided I would wear the field watch

https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxfY25Kf3PlqGcCObCcLXMwzTpUxWrAp8k

on the strap as pictured above.

I don't want to wear the diver on the smurfy strap

https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxJ8uVSGTrJkcpbhDsFlvwbdiz_Mw9m0oU

or the bracelet

https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxhFSnPYlYRkCFSVg_LoGL1_7mJ7NvU2x3

I'll report back after the trip and having put the domed crystal field watch thru the paces.

Thanks all for your participation!! 🙂👍

·

The trip has come and gone and fun times were had. No crystal damage to report (finger damage is a whole different story tho) and the watch performed well.

I have to say there is some credence to this "all night lume" thing-it truly blazed thru the nights.
