Do you think Rolex watches are affordable

What do you think? I think Rolex is too overhyped and overpriced. I rather buy an Omega or Grand Seiko or JLC for this money. Do you think they are affordable?

In my opinion, it depends on the model. $10k for a Datejust 41? Yes. $12k for a Submariner, no. Reasoning that an Omega or JLC Dress watch is the same money as the Datejust, but an Omega Seamaster diver is a better watch at half the money.

Rolex is overpriced intentionally, like all luxury products. That's essentially the entire point of luxury products, to show you have money to waste...

What makes a Rolex that expensive? It can t be the used materials. Are these hand- crafted?

I really like to know it

None of the brands you mentioned are "affordable" - they have different ratios of value/money but they are all, objectively expensive.

If you want a Rolex, buy a Rolex. If you want value buy a G-Shock.

Its affordable just not for most 😂

Most of the works are done by robots.

It depends on various factors - not least on one's own income. With Rolex, however, it's a bit more complicated, as Rolex has managed to be more than just a brand. Wearing a Rolex is more of an achievement in life. Although other brands produce more complicated, (in terms of price-performance) better watches, you will certainly be approached more often to wear a Rolex on your arm than a Grand Seiko, JLC or AP.

None of your alternatives are affordable, even in a relative sense.

It needs to be that price to pay for their marketing budget and the many glorious works of charity that they carry out.

Their market can afford them. They are inaccessible more than unaffordable. Furthermore, in a supply and demand way they are underpriced as seen by the literal appreciation of the products on the used market.

Now the fact that a hefty percentage of the retail price is buying marketing and other intangibles as opposed to product quality, that is a separate issue.

I think it’s all kind of relative to the person buying the watch. While I own a Rolex 114270, I still think that watches over $1000 are expensive. It took me a long time to save up for that piece. With that being said, I personally believe that Tudor and Omega are great value for what you’re getting when compared to Rolex👍🏻

Rolex watches are absolutely not hand-crafted. Rather, they are examples of some of the highest quality mass-manufacturing in the world, coupled with phenomenal design and backed by billions of dollars in advertising. Rolex is one of the best run companies in the world and makes excellent products. They are not handcrafted and are not "high horology."

Considering that Rolex sells about 1.2 million watches per year, I would argue that they are perfectly affordable to at least that many people. Considering the premium in the secondary market, I would also argue that they are affordable to considerably more than that number.

Expensive & affordable are not the same thing, a Rolex is objectively expensive compared to most other watches, but if you have the money to buy one it is also affordable to you.
