Another sign of a trend for smaller watches?

Is this another sign of the transformation to smaller sizes? I’m no expert of Breitling but to me their watches always felt on the larger side. They have now launched a 38mm of their Superocean. Called Heritage ’57 Highlands Capsule Collection.

Love the smaller watch trend. Not because I like just smaller watches. But because it is opening up variety

It shure does! I tested the new 39mm Longines Heritage diver the other day. Perfect size for me!

Breitling is a brand that have never so much as raised a flicker in my imagination for decades. Too big, too much going on, in many cases downright ugly. Recently however I have seen a number of their watches that are really pleasing on the eye, less complicated & as you draw attention to, getting smaller. If they keep this up I may end up buying one :)

As a long time collector I feel that there is no "trend" to smaller watches.

If nothing else it's more of a return to normal after a brief period of hockey pucks and clown watches. (not that there's anything wrong with that)

I have spotted some nice ones the last year but they felt to big. Like Longines with their long lugs. Now it might be that Longines and Breitling together take the path to more ”wearable” watches.

Sure, as a vintage collector myself I agree that the smaller sizes is historically more ”correct”. Having said that I think it’s fair to say that we now see a trend (back) towards smaller sizes.

Good size for small wrist like me ... wud be lovely if the lug to lug less than 45mm

·

38mm is unusually small for Breitling. Definite trend to go smaller. Yes. Spot on. 👍

·

Thanks for sharing this - hopefully bodes well for the sizing of the Universal Geneve reboot in future.

I don’t have any measurements available but from the pictures the lugs doesn’t look too scary.

They might fool us a little? Looks like a little overhang of the bezel. So maybe the watch is 39-40mm but the case is 38.

That’s a thought. Hope you are right👍

Well, at that size it’s doesn’t look very Super to me. 😏

Bad joke aside - it’s nice to see Breitling beginning to offer more of their catalog at different sizes! Hope other big brands follow suit 👍

·

I'm also no expert to Breitling but they do look small for what I'm used to at this brand although 38 isn't really small. On some wrists they look pretty much large

Imo Longines is going in the same direction.

Finally!

A Breitling I can actually wear. Dope collection, not gonna lie

·

This all started when Georges Kern took the helm in 2017.

·

#sketchydude 's wear Breitling. And now I'm even more wanting to join the club! 👌🏻

·

Nice watches. I feel good wearing something between 38 and 42mm.

·

I’m biased but I love these. Hoping to see these in person soon!

·

Everybody is now launching small lines. Not of much interest to my big wrist. 😁

·

38mm is a sweet spot for a desk/dress diver. Especially in a strap or a mess bracelet. Some of my clients that are behind the computer all day say that thicker bracelets get in the way.

·

I don’t see any shrinking trend, though it doesn’t matter to me, since there are plenty of other choices. 40mm is a minimum for me. The sweet spot that I like is 40-45mm. Fortunately at my age, I’m immune to style and trends, and just wear/buy what I like.

It is exciting to see Breitling build case sizes that are wearable dimensions. I am a fan of the new Deuce and the Superocean. Breitling Navis were giant wristburgers that only Armenian Gangsters and my friend Jens Grau could pull off. For the record, Jens is neither Armenian or a gangster. We shared a few good workouts back in the day. He had the wrist circumference to pull off a Navi. I thought you had to be as jacked as Jens just to wear a Navi on wrist all day.

I don't know what's more scratched, the left side of my metal macbook or the clasps on my metal bracelets. Def a "first world problems", but i really couldn't find a solution to this and just gave up. It's not that serious when you use a standalone keyboard, specially small one (60% or 75%), but with a laptop you have no choice rather than take the watch off.

These Breit's are a nice! Stamp of approval from the Bang Bang Small Wrist Gang🤣🙋🏽‍♂️

I have always regarded myself as someone that can only wear 40-42. But I decided to venture below the hard deck and was pleasantly surprised. I bought a 38 Frederique Constant and a 39 Lorier Neptune and both worked. I guess the real measurement comes from lug to lug instead of the case diameter.

My lug to lug limit is approximately 50mm. I come from the opposite direction. Starting with vintage or pre loved smaller sizes. I have learned to ”accept” larger sizes.
