Weak during Black Week

First suntrip since covid was spent in Meloneras, Gran Canaria. Biggest of the Islands that numerous times been nominated for the worlds best climate with it’s small variation in temperature between summer and winter.

After a week of this

me and the wife came back to this

The Meloneras/Maspalomas area turned out to have quite a few well assorted multibrand boutiques for watches within a small geography. There were a lot of temptations with watches that are on the radar offered to fair prices. The island is within EU but have approximately 4% lower VAT compared to the Spanish mainland to start with. On top of that there were discounts offered when watch discussions became more serious and the employees noted I was into watches and not another tourist just looking at shiny things.

In different shops I had the chance to try on the white Seamaster, the medium Santos and, inspired by @Robcollects , the Speedmaster Moonphase. The Moonphase is beautiful but after tried it on on 2 different occasions i finally decided that the 44mm was a step to far for my wrist despite close to 30% discount compared to my domestic MSRP. I was also proud of myself to not go through with the other watches even after good dinners including wine (the boutiques closes late in the evening in this tourist area).

So back home without a watch with a stop in the Capital. Of course not without some window shopping during the Black week. My luck ended, or started, when visiting the Zenith boutique and they had a white Chronomaster Sport in the shop. I have been in there before and they never had the watch in. Never waitlisted but you needed to to order and no discount given. This time I was asked to give the price I was willing to pay ”since it was Black Week and Black Friday the following day”. A bit stunned by this somewhat different negotiation strategy I took a deep breathe and was left alone to think this proposition through. The Zenith was definetely on my radar and I decided that this was probably a good opportunity. I aimed for the prices given in Japan and gave an offer below that. After a ”I have to call my Superior” we ended up on target.

So a new member in the collection is introduced. I think the watch is stunning. The white dial really pops and the subdials are playful with their tricolor pattern. A good size for me for a sport watch. Really happy with this one even if I turned out weak during Black Week.

Nice buy — I particularly like the variation between the colours on the sundials. Unusual.

(I bought my sister a G-Shock on the same islands twenty-plus years ago. She’s killed it, as hair-dye is bad for them. Who knew.)

·

Congrats!!  It's gorgeous.

·

I just love Zenith and this is just such a super classy chronograph. I have so much more respect for this than the Daytona.

When they finally get around to making the movie about my life it'll be the Zenith Defy on my wrist.

You did well!! I understand about the Speedy, it’s certainly bigger than I ever expected to get. I like it on the OG leather strap and single pass NATO, but my wife is +/- on the look with that and we both think it’s a no go on regular NATOs, so its at the top for me regarding size.

The Zenith looks great and I know has a cool brand history. I really like the three colors (shades of gray?) on the subdials. Does it have a display caseback?

Sounds like it was well bought too. Congrats 🍾🥂

That is a very sexy chronograph!

·

Wow, congratulations! Beautiful!

Got it on discount too. Nice. That is one awesome watch.

Thank you! I agree, at first when I was aware of the El Primero, I was a bit reluctant to the ”unbalance” the color variation gives. But after some time it turns to a plus.

Thanks! I put the Daytona on the same level. Strangely enough I like the black version best but for the El Primero it’s the opposite. And yes the Defy is probably right. My daughter is a (recent) Psychologist. She can probably develop this further.

Thanks! Yes, I was a bit surprised but now the model been around for a while so I guess the market is more in balance. Discounts, I like👍

·

Congratulation,😁😁👍👍

·

Beautiful beautiful watch , very well done Sir.

·

YES, mate!!! Fantastic acquisition!!! Tried on the black version in Leeds a year ago and have thought about it often. That movement is from another world and in such an attractive and well made package… YIKES!!  Anyway, really made up for you (can you tell) 🥂

It has, and a pretty good looking as well. Sorry for the crappy picture

The subdials are light gray, anthracite and navy but quite subdued so they work well together.

I was disappointed that it didn’t work with the Moonphase. I really like your blue one. It was a penalty kick really. I could have it on leather, on bracelet or both. All to a really good price. But it was too big for me in the long run.

Thanks for the extra shot. I like the cutaway rotor, get to see the movement so much better.

In regards to the Daytona, my son works at a Rolex boutique and he has never sold even one steel Daytona, they are reserved for VIPs only.

·

I will eventually buy a watch in Canaries, even if just a G-Shick.  On Lanzarote, there is one big group of resort based jewellers called Santos who have a pretty impressive range.  Beware there is light regulation and some lest than reputable businesses.

Unlucky for me then, but just as imagined it to be.

·

Great reward for a great trip!! The Chronomaster is the star on my watch tree, my never afford but the out of reach makes it that much brighter.

·

Great buy, absolutely beautiful watch.

It reads nicely left to right, and if they were different colours rather than shades it probably would unbalance — but it works.

Thank you! I wasn’t hanging on the ropes when it was released. I have no experience from the situation then. Apparently the hype is over and the market is in balance now.

Wowzers! How did I miss this post???? You are coming in with some incredible watches my friend! This watch is on my Chrono list. The Speedie seems overdone by many. The Daytona... you know where that's going. Zenith is incredible. Congratulations on a beautiful watch at an awesome price!

Thank you! As stated before, if I expose myself frequantly, good opportunities will occur.
