I bought a quartz watch 🤦‍♂️

Always wanted a GS, was torn between quartz and Spring drive, since that's "their thing". But the nice people at crown and caliber made the decision easy by offering this one for $1500 and free shipping.

I have a mechanical daily watch that loses 5 seconds a day, that might not be much but triggered my OCD in ways that mechanical watches that deviated more didn't, just because I wore those on occasion and the daily....well, daily. So I wanted a quartz to appease the OCD Gods.

I gotta say I'm super happy with my decision, watch was a bargain and that case shape is iconic, I was a little worried at the size, 40mm is where I draw the line but I knew that the thin case, and narrow lug to lug was gonna make it wear smaller, and it does. It's a strap monster too, threw it on a Nat0 strap just to see if it worked and looks fantastic, as it does on the bracelet or a leather strap.

So happy with my purchase.

Thanks!!

Brilliant for £1500. Really something like that is all the watch anyone needs (maybe with a little casio for when you are playing paintball)

·

Holy cow! Soooo Sexy!

Ah shame. Gif Not working. hes doing the ooh that sexy face.

·

Congrats. That is a great choice

I'm a quartz lover. That 9F movement series is spectacular! Thermal compensation. Accurate I think +/-5 sec per year! It has the anti back lash system to keep the second hand from jerking back like most quartz. Really am amazing technical achievement.

·

This video has a good explanation about the wonders of the 9F series.

Congrats! It really looks classy. Have fun with it :)

·

Did you say $1500? Cries at the unfairness of it all

Anyways, damn great watch, my friend! It's god tier!

·

Congrats. I got the smaller SBGX261, and love that it's allways on point.

Ohhh! Nice crown and caliber you say…I want one but with champagne dial 😉

·

Nice watch. Congrats.

·

If you are only buy one GS, it must be a quartz.

·

Can't go wrong with a plain black dial. I like this one more than their fancier offerings. In my view, Grand Seiko do better when they don't act like they're trying to prove something.

Super watch! Enjoy.

But wait, why the face palm in the post title?

Clickbait 😂

I've got the champagne dial one (an SBGV005) and it's fantastic. The black and blue dials are lovely, but champagne has so much more personality.

Congrats! I had the SBGX261 for a time and loved it, however, the case design of yours is nothing short of gorgeous! Looks great on that nato too!

Thanks! I love your watch and was going to get that model initially, because I prefer 36-38mm watches, but the history and looks of the 44gs case can't be beat.

A SARB on steroids!

Beautiful and congratulations!

unpopular opinion: in my eyes all automatic movements are basically the same with a few exceptions that are usually out of price reach anyway. Watch collectors make it seem like it is such fine and difficult craftsmanship but no it isn't, it's technologie that's been virtually unchanged for over a hundred years.

Quartz watches can be just as interesting, the seiko 7548 quartz movement shares many components with the 6309 automatic movement, why would that 7548 be less interesting when it's half a mechanical watch anyway. Or the omega 1325 movement, that is a 15 jewel quartz movement that looks way cooler than a bog standard automatic. bulova accutron is also such an example. Don't get me started on casio's 80s and 90s watches.

Not that unpopular an opinion. Someone once said; "Whaddaya mean, 'quartz has no soul'? You're literally using magic to vibrate earth crystals!"

I don't know that I'd go thst far, but I do think that we take modern technology for granted. It's like the craftsmanship required to put tens of millions of transistors on a wafer of silicon the size of a lentil and have them all work is so elevated that we no longer recognise it as craftsmanship.

I want a watch to do three things: to tell the right time, to look good, and to be reliable. Grand Seiko does all three better than a Rolex.

Great purchase! Terrific GS regardless of movement. I might have to buy the same piece after seeing your post. Hope I can get close to your purchase price!

Great choice! I'm glad I could help. I love it so much and if this is your kind of watch go for it. You can find deals like these from Japanese sellers, you gotta research the seller and maybe pay more on shipping but it's possible.

Good to know, Sir. Thank you for the reply. Having traveled to JPN over 30 times I think I’d be comfortable finding a good deal during a future Grand Seiko shopping trip. The savings would justify the airline expense, particularly given the current strength of the USD against the Yen. Hope to make this happen.

Heresythe sbgv007 which is similar case, only says Seiko on top of the dial instead of GS logo, it's $1500 at checkout https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/grand-seiko-heritage-quartz-sbgv007-10-10-grs-xqyasr?variant=39907453206603&gclid=Cj0KCQiA1ZGcBhCoARIsAGQ0kkqsQ083e4bhVNntQxsTZywUrWkCMfvEXiRQln3Ma2wxFdrtSTysNoQaAnvKEALw_wcB

The SBGP003 is $2000. It has the 9F85 movement which has independent hour hand setting without stopping the movement, sort of like a gmt
