Well I'm no manufacturing engineer, but think of the sort of pound shop crap that has small custom LCDs - tamagotchi knockoffs and the like. It can't cost much to set up a new LCD.
I don't see that it would take much to produce it. It's a standard F91W module, the pushers can be wired to the contacts. The only new electronic part is the LCD.
I've never had a problem with salt water affecting the metalwork on a Nato. But I have had cheap springbars rust (the spring and pins inside, rather than the barrel) and I would never again buy unbranded springbars - it's not worth the risk.
That is my daily beater. Has been on my wrist 24 hours a day for the last four years or more, only recently have I started briefly substituting it out for a dress watch, a Boldr, or a Royale. Second hand hits all the marks. Ecodrive is brilliant. Looks great with a Nato.
If I could only have one watch I know what it would be, because for years I did have only one watch and it was this one.

I know that digital stuff probably doesn't count as a complication, but the countdown timer on my Casio Royale is really useful. I leave it set at 3m50s, so I can make a cafetiere of coffee, put the lid on, start the timer, and plunge it at 4 minutes exactly. Chrono or dive bezel aren't so good, as without the alarm I'll just forget and over-extract the brew
