Choose Your Own Adventure, Intro & First Fork in The Road

As if I don't have enough going on, I had an idea to write a story about an adventure in which a watch plays a prominent role. I also want to write more consistently to create some content & engagement for the Crunch and my blog, so I thought I would write it in the 'Choose Your Own Adventure' style. But instead of writing out 2-3 different stories with different inflection points and posting it all at once, I thought I would write an installment and use some polls along the way to allow the Crunch Community to play along and direct the story to some degree. I hope you come along for the ride... Just off the bat, all characters are purely fictional and any similarities to any Cruncher, active or not, is purely coincidental. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Choose Your Own Adventure - The Call... It was a stormy morning in Atlanta. Both the weather and the maelstrom of dreams Stefan was having. The thunder outside his high-rise apartment windows was loud and violent enough to mask the soft alarm that was coming from the mobile phone on his nightstand. "BOOM!" That thunderbolt was close! Close enough to rattle the windows and shake the bed enough to rouse Stefan from his slumber. Stefan rolled over and grabbed his phone and the screen lit up after recognizing his face. He looked at the 10 missed calls and wrinkled up his face in confusion. "What the hell! Why would they be calling me at 6:30 in the morning?" Grunting, he hit the call button and before the end of the first ring, the call was answered by Albion, the sales manager at Ainsley Family Jewelers. "Stefan!" he enthusiastically boomed. "Good to hear from such a prolific customer. But why at 6:30 in the morning?" Stefan was confused. "Albion, you called me 10 times this morning. I was wondering the same thing." It's now Albion's turn to be confused. "I called you? No, no, my friend. You have awakened me with your call, I have not called you. But no matter! I was going to call you later this morning! Do you still want that white gold Patek? If so, I can have it for you by the end of the day!" Stefan, taken aback at the glossing over of who called or did not call who and also the possible acquisition of the white gold Patek 5204G-001 split-seconds chronograph with perpetual calendar, stumbled for the right words. "Can I call you back in an hour? I need to check with the office and a couple of other things." "Certainly, certainly, my good friend. But only an hour. As you know, this is a prized piece. Many others would love to have this exquisite piece of craftsmanship as well. Even your father." Albion prompted, knowing exactly what that last clause meant and would do for him. "You bastard. You smooth talking bastard." Stefan chuckled. "You will have your answer in an hour. Good bye." The Call ended. "Albion, you sneaky swine." Stefan thought. "Oh well, shame on me for mentioning Pop and introducing them." He made another call to the home office to let them know what had just transpired and everything on the call went as he expected. Next, he hopped out of bed and striding to the walk in shower in the adjacent ensuite, told Alexa to start his coffee. He showered, dressed and paused over his watch collection. Which watch to wear to Albion's shop to pick up the Patek? Stefan's collection is the envy of most of the world; 3-4 Rolex including a vintage Oyster Perpetual that used to belong to Alec Guinness, a Nautilus (Tiffany Blue, naturally), a Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Perpetual Calendar Moonphase Ultra-Thin, an AP Royal Oak Offshore in Rose Gold, and a curious entry, a Seiko SKX007. As time ticked closer to that hour deadline, Stefan was paralyzed by the many options in front of him. He knew that everyone he was expecting to meet today would ignore his watch, except for Albion & his staff; and they were a bit off-kilter. Some days they would gush over the Seiko and ignore the more "impressive" pieces and other days would be the reverse. It was all very odd. Glancing at the time on the always wound watches he pulled out his phone and called Albion. "You knew I would take it. I will be there at 2pm. Great. See you then." He ended the call, picked up the watch, strapped it on and walked out the door to the elevator. Which watch did he choose?

Always start an adventure with a beater.

Gotta wear an expensive watch in Albion’s shop. He picking up a Patek yo.

Not that Tiffany Nautilus though. He probably got the Nautilus in an auction, not in Albion’s house. This would be abit disrespectful to the shop owner.

AP Offshore is the perfect choice. Bigger is better when you need to meet ppl. 😂

Go with the beater. No one believes you just bought an expensive Patek with a skx on your wrist. No chance I'm getting robbed, thank you very much.

·

I'm a suspicious man, so knowing this is a story and something will happen with the watch I chose, makes me choose the Seiko. It can handle anything thrown at it. Also wouldn't be hard to replace if something bad happens 😉

I chose the vintage OP because you have to appears as a real watch enthousiast (go vintage is a good way) and I chose Rolex because it shows you are able to obtain a watch if you want it.

A camel is a horse designed by a committee, did you a favour by not offering an opinion.

You can offer a choice & an opinion & I may use the choice, but opt for another reason to have used the choice.

Think of it as I'm providing the horse, but the rest of the Crunch is just telling me which saddle to use.

Are you Stefan or do you want to tell Stefan what to do?

Sorry, as usual I didnt read the whole post......😢disregard my comment....

I stopped taking Albion’s calls months ago. After he was caught up tangentially in the Horology House scandal in 2020, I’ve been wary of him. Obviously I’d wear the vintsge OP. I wore it to my knighthood when they accidentally tried to make me a Dame. That didn’t sit well, did it ?

Why not! I look forward to the next and will participate with enthusiasm. 👍👍

Same.

This will be fun!

SKX is the best Instagram story by far. Stefan feels like he'd probably be a slave to the gram

I was going to pick the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Perpetual Calendar Moonphase Ultra-Thin. But Seiko it is.
