Do you even EDC?

In the colourful circus of the internet, the "Every Day Carry" (EDC) aficionados shine like a beacon of absurdity, guiding us through the fog of practicality into the realm of the idiotic. Split into two camps, these enthusiasts could not be more different, yet are united in their quest for online validation through the art of pocket stuffing.

First, we have the tactical fantasists: a group whose EDC looks like Batman’s utility belt had a baby with a Swiss Army knife. These are individuals who, despite facing no greater daily danger than a paper cut, arm themselves as though their suburban sprawl was the setting for the next "Die Hard" movie. With enough knives to outfit a small culinary school and flashlights bright enough to signal the Voyager spacecraft, their preparation for life's "unexpected" challenges is as overkill as bringing a flamethrower to a candlelight dinner.

Then, there's the luxury brigade, those who think a sleek wallet thinner than their dating profile’s substance can elevate them to James Bond status. With an American Express card hanging by the thread of its credit limit, a Rolex that’s more a handcuff to debt than a timepiece, and a Montblanc pen that’s seen more of the inside of a drawer than any actual use, they parade symbols of wealth like peacocks, hoping to mask the existential void with a sheen of opulence.

Both camps, though armed differently, march to the same beat: a desperate clamor for the internet's fleeting gaze, believing that the right combination of carried items can transform them from mere mortals into icons of preparedness or pillars of luxury. It's a theatrical display of insecurity, where the tools of choice do less to enhance their lives and more to broadcast a persona that's as carefully constructed as it is hollow.

In this satirical look at EDC culture, we find not a celebration of pragmatism, but a comedy of material excess, where the line between being equipped and being encumbered is blurred by the allure of likes and follows. And as the curtain falls on this spectacle of the everyday carry, we're left wondering if perhaps the best thing we can carry is not a gadget or a gizmo, but a healthy dose of self-awareness and the ability to find humor in our obsession with stuff.

That’s a pretty eloquent and beautiful way to say that these extreme EDC peeps are doing way too much 😆. I understand carrying a few items in the pocket, but not to the point where I’ll need a bag or cargo pants.

Here’s my idea of “EDC”…i couldn’t imagine having more in my pockets 🙃

100%

EDC is nothing but SIMP (shit in my pocket)

Lol, I EDC certain things every day.....👀🤏🏻😉.

And while I agree that some of those "pocket" dumps are ridiculous, some items I carry, many would question why.

And when I say ridiculous, I mean like how in the heck are they carrying that much stuff? They carry as much stuff supposedly "every day" as I carry in full kit...😂🫣.

To those I would say, as a US citizen, it's my right, also my duty, and should those items(s) need to be employed in a civilian setting, it's already been a bad day.

PS - I''d also agree with Watches of Espionage 's take:

Cash, a light, and if abroad in certain areas, a TQ are nice to have. Even without a an edge, or pew pew, a bright light, attention to surroundings, and mindset trump weapons. That being said if you can carry legally, why not.

I find "EDC" overly dominated by guns and knives and the attitudes thereto of certain sections of American society.

I feel like you want to be the "tactical fantasist" EDC guy when the EDC guy is needed. It's just a lot to do every day for something that maybe 99.99% of people won't ever need 99.99% of the time. The closest I ever got to this kind of preparedness is putting together an Amazon list of things to buy for an emergency go bag.

I made the list 6 years ago, and never purchased a single thing on it. Thank goodness we haven't had an emergency that required fleeing!

Where I live the knife is pretty much out of the question, while a firearm can easily be carried, but not into work. I do have a small flashlight, a camping cutlery set, earphones, a bunch of toiletries, a mug, and a few other things, such as a pen and a notepad, all in a leather shoulder bag. But I'm just trying to survive a day at the office.

Oooh boy, when the first segment of EDC aficionados find this they are gonna post a video of them performing an extremely long & very scripted set of tactical moves with every piece of their kit then look into the camera and say, "Shut up, Snowflake!"

When the second set reads this, they will call Daddy or Mommy & scream "Make him stop!"

How was the line again „all I got is me and my ba…“

Is this Ai generated? lol. Very pot stirring and funny。

If I lived in the Alaskan bush I think the case for firearms and Bowie knife would be good.

I’ve always got a leatherman multitool with an excellent knife I use for off grid camping.

But my daily EDC is my work ID, bike lock key, pen … and a watch!

Spoiler alert, the EDC guy is only needed in movies.

My two main! other is wallet and keys.

I've never understood EDC in any form.

Yes, I always have my phone on me, often my wallet too, but I don't feel the need to #flatlay those and post them anywhere.

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone needs to carry all this shit.

Wait, so you’re telling me you don’t require the approval of complete strangers on the internet to validate your self-worth? Preposterous! How utterly unconventional!
