SOTC, collection complete!

I have finally completed my collection, and decided to share here!  I wanted to create a collection with a ‘watch for any occasion’, with a mix of dial colors, complications, and brands while trying to keep the collection size to a minimum.  I also wanted to focus on the themes land, sea, and air.  In the end I came to the conclusion that a nine piece collection could achieve everything I desired.  As of a couple of days ago, I finally have finished the collection!

That is a great collection!  Love the theme of it. You have nice brand diversity, but also have brands you tended to favor.

Might I ask why you went with two seamasters with a 9 watch collection?

whistle long and loud at your collection

Hot diggity doo, my man. That is one awesome collection.

Rail watches for land, pilot watch for air and divers for the sea.

Congratulations!

·

Thank you for the compliment!  The reason for the two Seamasters is simple.  I love the design, wanted both colors, and feel from a technical standpoint the Omega movements are the very best on the market (especially the coaxial escapement).  I thought about a GO, but in balance I couldn’t justify the extra money.

Actually, it’s three for three.  Example; Ball RoadMaster TMT, Ball Trainmaster TMT, Omega Railmaster for land.

It is a beautiful collection and they are all fine watches.

However, without a tank, tonneau, or cushion case in the lot I have to mark it as incomplete. Sorry, those are the rules.

The goal of a collection ought to be solely to satisfy the collector.  It is impossible for any collection to satisfy the needs, tastes, and abstract feelings of every single one of the 7.837 billion (2021) people of the world.

Sorry, those are the realities.

That said, tanks and tonneaus are fine designs.  However, I rarely require dress watches and selected two that suit their purpose.  The Ball Trainmaster is low key, and intended for more solemn dress occasions (funerals for instance).  Meanwhile, the GO PanoMatic Lunar is for upbeat dress occasions, weddings for instance.  As I wanted to limit the size of the collection to 9, the styles you mentioned just didn’t fit the goals and parameters I set at the outset.

I do thank you for your input, nonethe less.

Great themes and subthemes. I think it should be pretty easy to happily live with this group.

The International Standing Sub-Committee on Standards and Rules for Watch Collecting (the ISSSRWC for short) has taken into account the desires and wants of the individual collector and nevertheless determined that diversity in case shape is too important to be left to the collector. Take it up with them in Brussels when they meet next year.

Also, do not take my comments too seriously. I don't.

One of the unfortunate realities of communication via text only is context one might get in person, such as vocal tone and facial expression is sadly missing.  I tend to have a very, very dry sense, and apologize if I came across too snarky.  I talk the exact same way I write, and those tells of context I mentioned are sadly also missing.😎

Thank you so much.  When I started I set specific parameters because I was afraid of becoming so embroiled that I wouldn’t find an end.  I feel you!

Great collection - congrats!

Looks like you have all the bases covered.

Thank you so much.  Yes, the PanoMatic is really great.  That was the final piece, and I’m very happy with it.😀

Oh Those Balls with Tempreture meter!! thats fantastic... I have to ask, are they accurate? does your body temperature affects it? Thx!

(Next move is to get a GS :) )

Yes body temperature does effect accuracy.  If you want a more accurate reading you should take it off and give it a few minutes to set to ambient temperature.

I like the complication very much, and it was a big factor that got me interested in Ball watch.

Thats for sure is a respectful collection!

Really like the seamaster (its on my purchase list) - that glasshutte panormaticlunar is beautiful

·

Thank you so much.  The Seamasters are every bit as good as they seem.  I will agree with those that feel that the scalloped bezel, while beautiful, is more difficult to use than a knurled one would be.  The PanoMatic is even more stunning in person.  Really a great watch.

I don't have a lot of confidence in the ISSSRWC. At their last meeting (in Brussels) they completely turned down my demand . . . that is, suggestion . . . that all watches selling below $200 should have a SOLAR mecha-quartz movement. They laughed and said I was a crazy American. I said what does that have to do with my request.
