Hypothetical situation, you're given $15K to spend on a watch or watches. Would you buy your grail, sell off your current lineup and try and be "one and done" or would you pickup a couple pieces that are very high on your wish list? Grail- Rolex Sea-Dweller 50th Anniversary, unworn and full kit Wish List- Cartier Santos ALDC and Omega Planet Ocean

Great choice of grail watch

·

I say the grail but don't sell all your other watches unless you have to (or are certain that by grail you really mean your one and done watch). Grail to me means favorite watch and getting my grail started my watch collecting addiction.

Also, if by Texans you mean the Houston Texans.  I miss Houston and "Luv Ya Blue".

I like the idea of having a choice of watches, so I'd have a hard time with "one and done", especially if it meant also selling off my current collection. I'm a proponent of quality over quantity, but as far as I'm concerned, the Santos and PO are similar in quality to the SD, and I'd personally rather have the two of them than the Sea Dweller. If the SD is a grail for you, and you want one much more than you want the Santos and PO, it makes sense to go for the SD, as otherwise you may grow to resent the "lesser" watches that stopped you from getting your grail.

Texans was Texans Soccer Club my son played on for years.  Die hard Cowboy fan here…much respect for Bum, Pastorini, and Earl though….

There are watches (even Rolexes) that I might choose over the Santos ADLC plus a planet ocean but the Sea Dweller isn't one of them.  Too inflexible as a wear.

As a general rule, I find attaining one's grail tends to result in the designation of a new grail.

·

Always get the grail If you can. It will always itch and if you buy the other two you’ll end up spending twice the money When you inevitably get around to getting the Rolex.

·

Grail, one and done (easier said than done)

·

Thanks for the input.  My current collection is a Tudor BB Pro on bracelet and a Speedy 3861.  I wouldn’t have to sell them but I’d rather use those funds elsewhere…first world problems for sure!

·

I’d choose an Omega and Cartier in this spot 100% of the time.

Good luck on the watch and the Cowboys.  I hope you win this weekend even thought I hated you guys in college mainly because I lost too many fights over which game to watch on the TV in the dorms. There were too many Cowboys fans back then but it's no surprise with Tom Landry, Staubach/ Danny White, and Dorsett. I miss the Landry Shift.

They’ve brought back the Landry Shift, fingers crossed I get to see it on Sunday.

If it's time for the grail... Don't fight it. Think what your wrist would love! 😅

·

off c24 prices, i'd go for one of my grail level pieces, the blancpain fifty fathoms grande date

·

One and done sounds like hell on earth - If I could only have one I'd sell it, have none and find a new passion.

·

I would get my grail if it was discounted 50% off 😂

My thoughts exactly

·

Buy my personal Grail. Because no other can take its place.. you can buy a bunch of watches that are ALMOST your Grail...

But you will still only lust for the one grail

·

I voted Sea-Dweller because that’s my one and done with Rolex. But I like how the majority went with Cartier Santos and Omega Planet Ocean. That’s a beautiful option to add to the collection.

·

If you get an opportunity to pick-up your grail, you don't look the other way! It may never come again in your lifetime. That's just me though. You do your own thing. 😉

·

Having to wear a single watch is going to be very boring real fast for me.

·

I follow the rule of building the collection from the ground up. So I'd leave to buy the grail watches after obtaining some of my most sought-after pieces that are at lower prices.

·

Rolex Sea-Dweller 116600 🧐🤔😁

·

I would never check boxes off a wish list instead of getting something I really want.

You can always get the wish list items at another time, as they are more attainable. I have a feeling that the voting above is more about the fact that your trail is a SeaDweller and less about answering your question.

·

How many of us ever get the grail? Even Indy didn't get the grail! Get the grail and see if it really is the grail. Might not be the grail after all and then you can sell it and start saving for the real grail you don't even know about yet. Classic, obsessive, mildly delusional horological insanity.

·

Spend it on something else. The two choices offered aren’t on even my long list. 😁

·

Having both an omega smp 300m and a cartier tank, and not carrinf for the sea-dweller, I'm biased and deff think omega plus cartier is the way to go.

·

Thank you to everyone who voted and all the comments.  The watch community is great because of the variety of opinions, likes, and dislikes.  Each comment gave me something to consider for sure.  If only our grail pieces were readily available and we didn't feel that the opportunity to grab one had to be done in haste.  For me at least its a process and that's why I reached out for suggestions/ideas.  Everyone have a safe weekend and enjoy every second....I'll update if and when a decision is made.

$15k? Oh my....thing is, my grail watch (aka that one watch I really wanted) is a Titoni Seascoper 600. It's only $2300~. With you gave me $15k I have no idea what to do.

A, because dugong is a cheap son of gun and B, I don't think I can afford servicing a Cartier and an Omega

·

It's usually a "one and done" until "oh look at that one"!

I learned something new today.  I'd never heard of the Titoni brand, they make beautiful pieces for sure.  I can see how that would be a grail...thanks!
