Should I sell my SBDX017 Marinemaster to get the SLA059 Red Seigaiha?

I already own the SLA053 Blue Seigaiha but I now want to add the SLA059 Red Seigaiha. Since these watches are essentially all Marinemasters, I'm thinkng it makes sense to dump my black dial marinemaster to all the red dial. My question is do you think I should get rid of something else instead? Do I really need three technically identical watches?

Clearly you are fan of the mm300.  I think you should keep the classic black dial (001 or 017?).

If it were me, I'd be good with the blue & black combo, but if you gotta have the red, get it too.

+1 on keep the classic black dial and it says Marine Master (cool factor!)

How limited is the red?

·

Just keep them all...every time I sell a watch I regret it later....I really have been trying to get my collection down to ten pieces...but heck every time I sell one I seem to buy two LOL

·

You know me I would keep the black and just add another one to the collection  lol

Enjoy that watch!

Cheers!

·

I would keep the black dial and get the red. The lettering on the black dial shows how special of a watch it is. The red dial doesn't. To me the red dial looks like the every day normal Seiko.

·

Hi John, I would keep both, you might end up regretting selling the black!

·

The red is gorgeous.

·

You said "Do I really need three technically identical watches?"

My reply is "What does NEED have to do with it?" 😎

Hobbies are supposed to be expensive...

·

the red is special

I tried on the Red Segaiha once and thought it was really neat! The dial is awesome, the pattern is very subtle. Watch was beautiful, but the clasp on the bracelet left a lot to be desired. Nothing a cheap generic clasp can't amend though!

·

Why not start to decide if you want the red one. If yes buy it. After some time you can decide whether the black or any other watch has to go due to the purchase of the red one.

·

Sure go for it.

·

Keep them all.

The red isn't a numbered edition but I think its a one time run, not sure how many they made.

·

Well I told my AD to order the Red as it is in stock at the distribuor; still on the fence.

·

I would not buy the Red dial. 👊🏼😁

I think like others have said if you want it buy it...but I think the black dial Marine Master will be very sought after by the Seiko fans...as you know with your very nice Seiko collection

·

It's pretty cool I got the blue cufflinks with my blue Seigaiha but I never wear cufflinks anymore.  Plus, it's a really strange accessory for a tool diver!

This is what I am going to do.

Seiko and Grand Seiko to some extent has some way to go on bracelets and clasps.  I mean they are functional, just not the best that they can be.  And I think it has to do with their manufacturing, they haven't invested in the new tooling to make it happen.

You point is well taken, I mean "need" in the way of making the collection more interesting.  Maybe reducing duplication, and adding something else instead.

·

That makes sense. It had a pressed ratchet extension that was rattly when not extended, and flimsy/prone to snags when extended. I thought it was a big shame, considering how nice the rest of the watch was!

Yes it’s odd to have a cuff link for a diver…

·

Thanks for all the great advice, I've ordered the red watch and will decide what to do with the black watch later.

·

The red watch is beauty!

Hey @SurferJohn , how has the SLA059 been for you? I'm considering buying one for my 40th birthday tomorrow, but my local AD won't go lower than $2850. Is that around what you spent for it, if you don't mind my asking?

It is a very beautiful watch, and I love it. It is basically a Grand Seiko without that branding on the dial but you get GS quality.

I don't think $2850 is a bad price, I got mine for a little less than that ($2650) but I buy a lot from the AD that sold it to me. All that being said your only choice is to wait to see if one pops up for less on the secondary market. BTW, I think it would be a wonderful and appropriate 40th birthday watch.

I thought you may be interested to see what my 40th birthday watch is. I'm a little over 20 years ahead of you though, this one dates from 2002!
