CrunchTrek - Week 3 - "Through the Acrylic Looking Glass"

Stepping through the emerald portal, you turn your head back to see Q waiving at you. "See you again real soon" His words echo through the gateway and you look like you've arrived back home. You see your crew standing in the middle of a normal street. Street signs, stop lights, and people using cells phone. Are you actually home? Did you outwit Q?

You breathe a quick sigh of relief and take the cell phone out of your own pocket to give your family a call to let them know you're ok. Hmm, no signal. The rest of the crew checks as well and no signal. Not even your trusty G-Shock Multi-Band 6 is picking up any radio signals to update. The crew starts to look around town for clues of where you may have ended up. Maybe someone in town could help them. You step into the nearest AD cause they're the friendliest people you know.

Opening the door, instead of air conditioning, it was strangely warm and humid. No one greeted you at the door or even offered you a drink. Your Science Officer quietly opens his tricorder to take some readings. 39.1 degrees C, 92% relative humidity. You've seen this before. The tricorder flashes "Warning"...but before you could even process, a chill runs through your body.

It's the Borg. Instinctively, you draw the weapons your Security chiefs gathered and fire. The first drone goes down and falls onto what looks a Hublot display case. No big loss there. The second volley of phasers takes down another drone and it falls into some Moonswatches and watches are now strewn everywhere. Strangely, the Borg is wearing a watch with a crown logo on it.

Your crew starts retreating out of the store while laying down cover fire. Too late, the drones have adapted to the phasers, their personal shields glowing green with every hit. As everyone starts moving out of the store, one of you slips on the one of the watches on the ground. "Help" was the last sound you hear as the rest of the crew runs for cover.

You dive behind a couple of cars parked on the street. Clearly, you were in the 21st century, but the Borg are here, running a watch shop. This makes no sense. Q must be playing games again. While the rest of the crew keep a look out and devise a plan to rescue the captured crewman, the Captain whispers "Q".

Instantly, you and your crew are back in the courtroom with Q. "What have you done? You promised to send us home", you yell. "Oh, I did. You ARE home. You meddled with a force you couldn't control and barely understand. Now, The Crunch is coming for us all." You realize that he was talking about the artifact. You had barely had time to even gather it together and you immediately activated it, like a kid opening a present at Christmas.

"You can change it back Q. Just snap your fingers, save our friend, and send us home", you implore.

"There are things even outside my control. Remember, you are on trial, not me. I'm here to set the rules, and you humans love bending them. Let me spell it out for you. Your meddling with timekeeping has brought you to an alternative version of your home, one run by The Borg. They've assimilated everything...using the one thing you can't resist, your watches."

Your Engineer and Science officer quickly scan the watches they're wearing...infected with Borg nanobots. They quickly take theirs off and the rest of the crew follow. Q laughs. "You've been carrying the instrument of your demise all along. How does it feel to know you did this to yourselves?" Q snaps his finger, and you're back on the street ducking behind a car.

First things first, secure the watches to keep the nanobots at bay. Luckily, your Medical officer created enough hyposprays to innoculate you against the nanobots back on the ship.

Then, rescue your crewmate and find a way back to your own timeline.

Everyone must post these sets of pictures, and tag me and your Captain and First Officer when complete.

1) A picture of your watch starting to assimilate you like what the Borg do. Be creative.

2) Climb the highest point in your local area and take a picture of you testing water resistance on your watch.

3) A picture of your oldest and newest watch. It can either be oldest by vintage or by your date of acquisition.

4) A picture of you wearing your biggest and smallest watches on one wrist.

5) A picture of a watch and its reflection.

6) Re-recreate the drink your medical officer created back in Week 1. Take a picture of you drinking it. It is your Borg antidote. (NOTE: do not drink it if your Medical Officer created a toxic brew. You can make your own drink.) This will be a crucial part of the game.

6 Pictures each, per crew member. No photoshopping.

Your Captain or First Officer will inform me when all crew photos are complete. Last Team Captain or First Officer who has confirmed all photos have been completed and who posts that their crew has completed the photos will be eliminated. Good luck Teams.

This Challenge ends 5pm 5/11 PST (UTC 0:00 5/12).

Remember -

All pictures must include a watch or watches.

Time will be kept using UTC and my time zone, PST (Los Angeles time).

THIS WEEK, crew members can post their own photos as they're completed and will tag their Captain or First Officer. The Captain or First Officer will tag me once your full team has completed their pictures.

There will be only 1 winning team at the end. No exceptions.

Q makes all rules, judgments, and final determinations. No exceptions. This is supposed to be fun.
