Speedy alternatives…

After one year I realized that Speedy is not my cap of tea… yes I also can’t belive…

Do you have the same? Please advise any chrono alternatives in this budget with <42 mm case 😉

Plenty of chronograph options out there plus a lot of styles too depending what you are after. Dive style, pilot style etc. At 39mm, my favourite chronograph is the Hanhart 417. Its around $2000.

Around the Speedmaster price range, the new Breitling Navitimer 41 or the Premier B09. Both comes with Breitling in-house movement.

Speedmaster reduced?

·

It would be helpful if you could let us know what you do, and don't, like about the Speedmaster.

For example, if you hate the three sub-register layout, then there's no point anyone suggesting another chrono with the same layout.

·

I think your Speedy looks fabulous on that brown leather strap! 👍

·

Maybe a Dan Henry 1962

Speedy didn't work for me either. I have a Breitling and Zenith Revival as my chronos.

·

If I wasn’t going to get a Speedy I’d get a Zenith El Primero.

·

I don't own a Speedy, but a Speedy look-a-like (PD) on a brown leather strap. Whilst I like it, and wear it fairly regularly, I am happy I did not go for the Speedmaster proper. I like the overall design and dial layout, but thinking about it, for me there is too much 'white stuff' going on:

  • White hour, minute and seconds hand

  • White lettering / logo

  • White hands, indices and numbers in the subdials

  • White indices (for 5 minute, minute and fraction of a minute intervals)

  • White numbers and indices on the bezel

It's all just a bit too much / too busy - again: for me.

Some nice alternatives to the Speedy could be Tag Heuer, Breitling, Zenith Chronomaster...or, a personal favourite (don't own one unfortunately) Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph:

There is nothing that is a viable alternative to the speedmaster. It’s a icon in the world of watches. There are plenty of watches with the same function but they are not speedmasters. Some actually have more interesting movements etc. but it’s the speedmaster that stands as the most recognizable piece. I love my chronomaster but it’s not a speedmaster.

Hanhart is on my radar. We will see when Panda 39 will be available.

Thank you for proposals 🤜🏼🤛🏼

I love chrono and Speedy is very good and it is very rasy to read, but I do not feel chmistry with him. Thikness is Ok, but size it os to Big. I like wearing my BB58 and Orbis the most comfortable watch for me now

Have you considered the Speedmaster 57? I prefer that to the regular one to be honest because of the broad arrows and not overload of white as @Icarium mentioned above. Also smaller too if size is of concern.

The new one is sweet too.

That is a ashame, I love the Speedmaster and hope one day to have one but, an alternative might be at least for me Bell and Ross V2-94? Think that is the model. Not sure of case size. Just an under the radar appeal

I will say that owning the PD and having tried on multiple Speedmasters, I’m increasingly discontent with the PD’s attempt at copying it. Like you say, the white is too bold and big. The real Speedy has fine white numerals.

PD got the case shape right but the dial doesn’t do justice to the real thing, imo.

·

Is it specifically the "Moonwatch" version of the Speedmaster you aren't bonding with?

Omega Speedmasters come in an enormous variety of styles, sizes and colours that, other than being chronographs, are quite distinct from one another.

·

Never cared for the original Speedmaster but quite enjoy DSOM iteration!

Here's my list of alternatives I can think of - and by alternative, I mean something with a character and distinctive background of its own, no homages.

  • Longines Avigation BigEye

  • TAG Heuer Carrera CBS2210.FC6534

  • Hamilton Intra-Matic chrono (auto or hand-cranker)

  • Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pioneer Mechanical Chrono

  • Breitling Navitimer B01 41mm

  • Airain Type 20

  • Sinn 144 or 103

Agree on the new Carrera Glassbox. I would also add the Tudor Red Bull Alinghi Pelagos Chrono.

I personally like the Speedy but if your looking for something else I’d go Daytona. It’s cliche but I do like the Daytona😎 #omega #rolex

@Sisqo81 are you planning on selling your speedy?

·
