Childhood Dreams

I came acrossed this watch in an online auction a couple of weeks ago. It was mixed in with a bunch of other watches. I bought the lot and was surprised when the lot came. This was in it and it brought back so many memories from childhood.

I remember growing up and watching The Dukes of Hazzard. I used to love watching Roscoe P. Coldtrain chase Bo and Luke. They would hit all of these country roads sliding around curves then famously jump the car while hitting the horn. This has the alarm that plays the horn. They would always jump the ramps that were hidden in the bushes. We the audience weren't supposed to notice the ramp.

On Friday nights we would go to a bowling alley in South Texas because my mom, aunts, uncles, and cousins were on a league. My mom would give my two brothers and I a roll of quarters to play games. I could never play Pac Man because there was always a line.

There was a Dukes of Hazzard quarter machine. In the display on top there was a Dukes of Hazzard watch. You probably guessed by now, I put every quarter in that damned machine. I had bouncy balls for days. Never got the watch. You could see a watch in its plastic container through the tank. It never moved. You would swear that it was getting closer. It wasn't.

I think wanting this watch is what inspired my mom to get me a watch. The coveted Casio F-91 I believe it was.

I know everyone has noticed by now that I have censored out the confederate flag. Not trying to hurt any feelings. Being older now I know that there are many meanings of that flag. Some people believe this and some people believe that about that flag. I'm not posting this watch about that. This is a post about my journey into this bad habit of watch collecting. It started with a childhood dream of getting this watch from a machine. Now 41 years later I finally got it.

We all know the real MVP of the show…Daisy Duke.🤣

·

Fun fact: the little jingle this watch plays is used in The Clash’s ‘Rock the Casbah’

·

That is classic! Love it. Yeeehaaaaa!

·

Wow - I too grew up watching the Dukes of Hazzard, but way over here in the UK. This is a pretty special find - nice one!

Loved it as a kid. "C'mon Flash, we're in hot pursuit!"

I loved that show when I was a kid. Who wouldn't love to see what was essentially a race car do stunts?

·

Classic watch, love it!

·

You wear it from 8-9 on Friday night, then put on your Hulk.

·

So many '69 Chargers destroyed

Still a favorite when I was a kid.

& Daisy had a type of shorts named after her.🤩

·

Shout out to Oris for that time earlier this year when a bunch of us watch geeks got to fondly reminisce over Hazzard County eye candy.

Great find! 😮 I have fond memories of watching that show as a kid! 😀

·

Priceless! In 1981 that was the business. Great nostalgia now and glad that it survived in great shame and has found a good home - enjoy!

·

You should be able to put it on without opening the strap 😏

Oh wow that had the flag right on the front there? Different times, eh?

That’s awesome that you finally got it! I found a few examples online of a long lost iron man, havnt oulled the trigger yet but it’s tempting.

Also, I found my Batman watch from when I was a wee lad that I completely wore out. I paused for a solid minute looking it over when I pulled it out of the box from the attic, almost brought me to tears.

Yes the flag is right there. I edited the picture so I didn't upset anyone. This thing is in excellent condition. That was a great find for you. I don't have my childhood watch but I do have some toys.

I Have big hands and a 7 1/2" wrist. That won't happen.

I certainly couldn't jump into a car without opening a door. 🤣

It's hard enough with the door open

There is one on eBay similar to mine. The picture on the dial is reversed. It's brand new in the box. It has the paperwork and still has the plastic still on it.

These things are all over Ebay, for between 30 and 60 dollars, depending upon condition. I noticed that some have the car chase on the top, and others have it on the bottom. There is also a black plastic version. So if you are the sort of collector that buys variations, you have 3 watches on your list now! 🤣

You're welcome. I almost thought about selling this one. I don't know if I want to. I have the model Casio of my first watch. I'm not sure if I should keep the one that probably led me to getting the Casio.

Damned fine acquisition! How fortuitous is that?
