WatchCrunch Tunes

What bands and types of music are fellow WatchCrunchers into? Anybody regular concert goers?

The wife and I are into rock and metal and go to lots of concerts. Our favorite are bands like Ghost, Rammstein, Mastodon, Motorhead, and Spiritbox.

Added pics of Rammstein and Ghost concerts for visual.

I'm an old rocker at heart though I do like my hip hop as well. I occasionally go to concerts- the last was Guns and Roses in London.

·

I have loved music my whole life and paly a bit of guitar and bass from time-to-time. Enjoy many, many bands/musicians and am mostly into Rock (Classic, Alternative, Punk, New Wave, etc.), but also a little bit of roots/country & lite jazz too on occasion.

My "Holy Trinity" are: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Oasis ...

Music for me is a screaming motorcycle engine bouncing off the rev limiter whilst I'm hanging on for my life.

That's my music 😉👍

Edit - I also play Bass and ukulele

I quite like going into a bend too fast, then pushing the bar as hard I can and silently swearing in my head.

Yup, as long as you make it out the other side 😉

Happy riding mate 👍🏻

·

Mostly into pretty niche and narrow metal and rock, but Ive seen Motörhead a few times when they were still going 🤘🏻

·

I go to a lot of shows. Almost entirely local bands in small venues, like 50-150 people vs. the massive arena shows like the OP. I see a variety of genres, punk, pop punk, rock, metal, acoustic.

Guns N Roses 💯 greatest rock band of all time 💪

·

Dance music (EDM) so looking at previous replies in know I'm gonna get canned, but I do like AC DC thunderstruck (so maybe there's some hope🤣)

·

Progressive, Alternative, Punk, & Classic Rock...

·

I grew up in the grunge and 90s hip hop Era, so I primarily listen to bands like Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine,Tool, Disturbed, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. Been to a load of concerts (one of my absolute favorite things to do). I dig a lot of modern bands too, like Royal Blood, The Joy Formidable, Cannons, Arctic Monkeys, etc

I also really enjoy jazz and blues. I played clarinet for 8 years as kid, and I really found my love for playing music when my high school band instructor introduced us to jazz.

·

Sad bastard music like Belle & Sebastian, the Shins, Dry the River. I'm also a big REM fan. And U2. And the Smiths.

Despite Axl's issues they were still great. And even he wasn't as bad as I feared on the night. Had Michael Monroe supporting, and he was good fun too.

Are we picking a trinity? OK, I think for me it's Rush, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin.

Love Rock music, not into concerts that much but my wife & I from time to time go to see a few of them, next month we're going to see Apocalyptica. Rock on!!

·

I’m going to see Mr. Big in Cincinnati tonight. Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan. Gonna be a mega evening of shred.

Rush alone is enough trinity for me. 😃

What links rap and country? Storytelling.

I think music fans can sometimes be broken down into those who prefer the tune (whatever the lyrics), and those concentrating on the lyrics. My wife is a tune person, I prefer the lyrics; she likes indie/rock music, I like rap and country!

Or maybe I'm just simple....😀

See, I love music that tells a story. I like listening to Mark Knopfler for that reason. Not only does each song tell a story, but the guitar and background music create a story of their own.

The lyrics and the tune both matter equally to me. If the song tells a great story, but I can’t stand the tune, I’ll have a difficult time listening to it.

My reason for disliking country music in general is because a lot of mainstream country sounds formulaic. So does a lot of modern pop, I’m not saying country is alone in this instance. Most of the songs a lot of the more formulaic stuff seems empty though, the lyrics just don’t sit well with me. Also I don’t like the vocals tbh. The accent that comes through isn’t my thing. I don’t fit the country stereotype at all, so perhaps my dislike of country is more pettiness than anything else. lol.

With that being said, there’s a few smaller less mainstream country artists, such as a guy from Alberta names Corb Lund. I quite like his music.

There is some rap that I like, such as Till I collapse by Eminem. I’m not a fan of rap with mumbled lyrics at all. I haven’t explored the genre a lot, I’m sure there’s more that I’d like if I took a deeper dive. In general though country and rap are my least favourite.

Man, they were good. Such a shame they couldn't last longer.

Yes, that's a fair answer!

Mainstream country certainly can be pretty formulaic, and unadventurous. Sometimes, though, there is some creativity within the standard formula - eg the drinking or cheating song which takes an unexpected twist. There's also usually fantastic musicianship - especially venturing into things like Bluegrass. But it's true, there are a lot of songs along the lines of "I'm from round here, and that's how I like it".

I'll check out Corb Lund. I saw a Canadian artist, Tebey, at a festival last year. He was pretty cool (although quite pop-country).

The main problem nowadays: whatever your genre, there's so much choice, you don't know where to start or finish!

I listen to everything. Yes I know everyone says that but I genuinely mean it! Metal, punk, jazz, blues, HipHop, classical and everything in between. My youth was filled with Pop punk which evolved into a love for metal and blues when I started playing guitar which in turn lead me to appreciate all kinds of music.

Music is everything 😁 I play guitar, piano, drums, bass, ukulele and many other more obscure instruments

My top ten artists last year were:

Dance Gavin Dance

John Mayer

Beartooth

Eminem

The Consouls

Killswitch Engage

Michael Buble

Twenty One Pilots

Santana

Yes, I'm not a country fan lately, but old Glen Campbell, etc. still strikes a chord.
