All the SOTC posts

Anyone else with only one or two watches (like me right now) got massive FOMO when looking at all the awesome collections people have?

Most I’ve ever had in collection was 4 quality pieces….

I’d always rather have a smaller number of high quality pieces though.

Given I’ve just got back into collecting I know what’s going to happen haha… but deffo feeling that itch to expand seeing everyone’s collections 😂🙌

One or two watches??? Well… Let’s see them. LOL

·

A SOTC post without showing TC... Come on, let's see em

·

I think that depends on a person. I would love to finish at 11-12 pieces but time will tell

·

Everyone’s journey is different. Take your time. No need to rush.

·

With many microbrands is pretty easy to get higher quality pieces at a fraction of luxury watch. So I don't think you will last long with just having two watches.

·

I seem to be in a minority, but I have zero interest in seeing other people’s collections.

·

Must admit I inwardly cringe when I see a sprawling morass of low quality watches as a collection. Just not my mentality - much prefer a small focused collection, not necessarily expensive, but with some direction.

I don't even click on those posts. They seem to be the modern equivalent of the slides from Aunt Ethel's vacation.

I know, right?

& Aunt Ethel in a bathing suit? Oof.

What has been seen, cannot be unseen.😵

It always feels (to me, at least) like such people are more interested in spending money, rather than enjoying wearing a watch

Yup, agreed - short term dopamine hit. Prefer the long haul myself 👍🏻

As a person with a large collection… I am more jealous of the person that can be happy with 2-3 watches. Over the next year I am going to try and cut my collection in half. I will fail.

Other people's possessions aren't something I get triggered over. We most often have little idea of another collector's history, motivation or financial situation and how that impacts their choices.

The inability to view a situation outside of one's self is a hallmark of narcissism and reeks of "Why can't everyone be like me?"

How self important must one be to post some variation of a "Not my cup of tea" comment everytime they see someone has made a choice different from theirs? The motivation in that dynamic appears to be less about watch enthusiasm and more about enthusiasm for one's self.

Publicly boasting about one's collecting superiority is as douchey a flex as any and does little to elevate one's standing in any healthy forum.

One can praise the restraint inherent in a 3 watch collection or the effort required to build 300 if one is inclined to see the best in others. Gatekeeping takes many forms. As always...

Your Wrist Your Rules. Do You!

This is a show and tell website. Everyone gets a turn. I don't read SOTC posts too closely, but I will stop to make a positive comment if a watch or two strikes my fancy.

Yes, I have thrown the rare "not for me" comment in there, but usually only if there is something particularly off-putting about the original post. Before I hit "reply" I consider how the comment sounds. I delete a lot of comments without posting them, either because the tone sounds off or I seem jealous or whiny (I am neither).

I have stopped commenting on "frankenwatches". It is not my responsibility to ruin your fun anymore than it would be to tell you that Santa isn't real.

Probably someone has already shared the same thoughts, but in my opinion it's quite simply. Just have as many watches as you are happy with, and those cover your life situations. End of story. If it's one, or if it's a hundred, I think it doesn't matter.

For me recently it stopped at 11, I wear all of them at least once every week, and can't imagine any life situations I couldn't pick one for.

Have a good day, cheers! 😎

Post 'em! Everyone's journey is different. Don't feel FOMO. Look at it as way to get ideas for future additions. That's what I do.

Me watching all of the SOTCs and scoping out all of the awesome watches...

This doesn't make sense, since sharing what you own with others is one of the main topics of discussion to be had. What are we going to discuss, how many bowel movements you've had today? Showing your watch of the day, or what you just purchased, is really no different.

I hear your post in a snobby English accent for some reason. Maybe it’s all your high quality Omegas.

For me, FOMO comes when a watch launches and it is sure to sell out. That happened to me with Direnzo's offering in July.

·

I'm aiming to have about 6 watches but I tend to not count watches if they are gifts as I know I wouldn't sell them, as long as I can keep it to one box I'm happy.

What do you mean Santa isn't real... Does that mean I'm not getting a watch for Christmas 😭

Why 6? Is this some magic number with celestial meaning? Why do you wish to dictate how many watches you own by the number of slots in a box?

You’re not - your time is up

·

I have five and feel I’d be fine with three.

·

Only have the 1 watch on my wrist at the moment, but don't feel any FOMO. Just enjoying to see great variety of collections on WC & feeling happy for you folks 🍻

How does anyone follow up after a comment like that? Perfectly expressed👌

·

I like seeing when somebody has a wide variety of well thought out watches. It is interesting to see how somebody else approaches this silly hobby.

A huge number of gShocks is just as strange to me as a box full of Rolexes. The fun part of this hobby is how much cool stuff is out there...why put yourself in a prison?

I have a watch box that has 10 slots and 3 of them are heirlooms or incredibly significant and meaningful watches that are there on that criteria alone. That leaves 7 slots for me to work with, and that is MORE than enough for me. I have been doing this for nearly 20 years and am pretty confident that I won't ever get a bigger watch box. I have re-homed almost 1/2 of the watches I have owned over the years, and seeing them out in the wild on the wrists of friends and family means they never really left. Just moved on...
