It’s not a trap, it’s a test. Buying that watch would be failing the test. If for any reason things get tight that watch will be a talking point. Ultimately you know her, not us. Does she get over things or will she hold it against you the rest of your life? haha It’s going to be spent regardless in this economy.
I think we are talking style and not character. I think a cool dude can make a cheap Casio look as cool as a iconic military diver or expensive Rolex. I’ve never seen a cheesy guy flexing money and thought his Rolex made him seem less cheesy though. The man makes the watch.
It’s just a watch
I feel your pain, I once really dinged the bezel on a Seamaster I used to own. Like deep scar, not just a scratch.
Chics dig scars and real tool watch dudes appreciate seeing another tool watch out in the wild that’s getting used.
There are definitely some elite military types that own Rolexes and the like. But I’d argue they are wearing GShocks, Seiko and Citizen divers for real work. Modern divers are wearing wrist computers. No one is wearing a Rolex as a beater anymore. I mean what did a Rolex diver cost in the 60s? You are right though. I wore Gshock or Suunto for field work. Most military dudes I saw in the GWOT wore Gshock. I’d never take a Rolex in that environment even if I could afford one. And by afford I mean easily buy a replacement if I needed to. I can’t BTW haha
No. If you truly got dirty while wearing your watch you’d realize taking it off to clean it separately is a thing. Watches get nasty and need to be scrubbed just like your body. Plus I have heard of instances where seals and gaskets have responded differently to heat and steam even though they were water resistant. Why risk it?
In the Seiko realm my unpopular opinion is the SKX coolness is overrrated at this point.
