Jaeger LeCoultre Sun and Moon Platinum Reverso
Welcome to my collection and to the WC family my new JLC. It’s a limited edition from 2003-5; which has just been fully serviced by JLC. JLC maintains records for I think all of the watches they’ve ever made and can repair/restore them all. Makes buying an older model more reassuring.
We’ve been looking at JLC’s for several years, I’m a sucker for the style and the Reverso flip, but never pulled the trigger. JLC’s are beautifully made, but would never be a daily wear for me despite the fact I like and use dual time zone watches. My wife found this one on line, and it was the one. The flip side is a display caseback showing an almost fully skeletonized and very decorated 823 movement. The platinum version of this watch (it was also available in steel and gold) has much more elaborate working and skeletonization than the other versions. I have the JLC band for it, but you are seeing it on a very comfortable Molequin band that also came with the watch.
So, this one ticks almost no practical boxes. It’s a moonphase non-automatic mechanical watch with only a 40 hour power reserve! So yes, daily winding or reset the moon when you wear (which is pretty easy to do, to be fair). The 823 movement, while beautiful, doesn’t hack! This is from a guy who normally sets his watch to the second every day (yes, I’m in therapy; no, it doesn’t help). It’s platinum, so while I don’t baby my watches, this one comes off for chores.
But, the heart wants what the heart wants. This fits the bill. Hope you enjoy the pix. I’m loving the watch so far. More to come after I’ve spent some time with it.

Thanks, the dial is quite a work of art itself. The background is rhodium and the numerals are applied white gold. The moon discs are yellow gold. The hands are blued.
