Watch Turnoffs

We made it to the weekend Crunchers!

Today's question is a simple one; What's a element of a watch that turns you off when you see it on a prospective watch?

For me, it's an easy one. I do not like exhibition casebacks. They generally add extra thickness to a watch, and well, it's on my wrist, so I'm not looking at it when I'm wearing the thing. I get why folks like them, but they really aren't for me.

The photos are of two Islanders with attractive casebacks, and then a G-Shock for funsies. As and aside, I've seen some quartz watches with exhibition casebacks, and those are really stupid, at least to me.

How about you? What makes that fizzle go away when you see it on a watch?

A cyplops date window ruins a watch for me!

·

A cartoon beagle.

As you stated ,pointless exhibition case backs on a quartz or workhorse mechanical movement….nothing worth looking at but adds a tiny bit to the thickness.

·

“Signature” or other weirdly shaped hour hands. The Seiko Alpinist would be a lovely watch if the hour hand didn’t look like a malformed penis. And don’t start me on Mercedes or Sowflakes. Ugh.

Oh, and there’s a special place in hell for whoever thought up the slaved 24-hour subdial.

·

When people write "perspective" instead of "prospective."

Jokes aside: goofy hour hands, bad lume, funky numerals, low wr, and unfortunately for me, lack of dates.

It's what I get for not proof-reading the post before making it! Part of why I have an editor for my website hahaha.

I'm a huge Omega fan. I like most of their watches, with the exception of Seamasters with the helium escape valve. Old Seamasters without it are fine. I love Aqua Terra models. But that extra appendage just does not sit right with me.

I like the 10 o'clock Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, but I get why people don't.

Skeletonized watches.

·

Snowflake hand.

·

Too much text! They need a character limit lol

·

Skeletonized dials. Watch herpes, as far as I'm concerned.

·

Poor lug sizing. The oddball ones like 21 or 19 u know what I mean. Brutal.

·

Those full lume dials. Ugh... 😐

Ah shit. Now I can't unsee it. I guess that takes the Alpinist off my list. 🍆

·

Roman numerals!

·

An odd combination of fonts in one dial

·

Watches that make it hard to tell the time with cryptic dials and more complications than the space shuttle.

·

California Dial and Cyclops Date Windows. IMHO.

Symmetry is one of many "rational arguments" for something ugly and silly.

Haha, appreciate your take.

To me, the “IV” makes it mismatched and frankly ugly. And the “IIII” is beautiful. Each to their own ✌️

1000% one of the most beautiful things about this hobby/ obsession. I genuinely enjoy leaning about different points of view with watches 🙏

No date, I like having a date and I like the look of the date or day/date window.

Subliminally, I think the fact that many advertisers or photos online show watches with non metal bands turns me off of them, I prefer bracelets.

Thanks. I see not all have the see-through dial, and most are brown, not bluish like yours.

I want the blue, same yours. They're not cheap though I see.

Ya I lucked out in an auction. No one recognized what it was. It was beat to hell, but came back nicely

hmu if you ever want to sell it.

Will do!!

I used to like exhibition casebacks, now I'm indifferent. If there is something cool to show off, I am fine with it. But the back on the #omega Seamaster Diver 300M Summer Blue is striking. Long live Poseidon!
