Turtle...Not a Fan.

I'm probably a minority in this regard, but I've never liked the "turtle" case design, regardless of manufacturer. I'm not sure why, maybe because the design seems unnecessarily fat and inelegant? Perhaps in time they'll grow on me. But for now...no. What are your thoughts? Yay or nay?

I never liked a 4 O'clock crown, and the case design never attracted me a lot.

·

I love the SKX and MM cases. Hate the Turtle and Willard.

·

Didn’t care for the shape at first. They grew on me over time and now I don’t mind them. I prefer the look of the “slim turtle” more. Something about it seems more refined and mature. Just my opinion.

Example being: SPB317 over SRPE05.

·

It’s grown on me, but just to the point I think it’s ok. I’d buy one of they were $300. I really don’t understand all the love, it’s a weird design.

·

My turtle is literally my favorite watch. To the point that I’m considering only collecting turtles from here on out. 🤣😂🤣

·

You should try one on. They feel much more compact than you would expect. I got a vintage for very cheap and can never bring myself to part with it. If nothing else, in a world of Rolex clones, it's unique.

·

I don’t have a turtle, probably won’t get one but man it’s a very comfortable watch. Just looking at it looks odd, but on the wrist it looks pretty good, in my opinion.

I have more than enough watches so I probably won’t get one.

·

Have you worn one or is it just the photos you don’t like?

Photos don’t do much for me, but i really I enjoy my turtle (SPRE93)

Fwiw, despite the ridiculous low factory specs, my turtle from factory is accurate to +3 spd when power reserve is maintained.

·

To be fair, never worn one, but it's the looks...

·

I’m a fan of the Turtle. Took off the candy bar date magnifier and added a Beads of Rice bracelet.

That was the watch that made me fall in love with watches it looked so different than anything else. I was simply intrigued, some watches came and are gone but my gilt turtle will stay forever. It is an affordable icon you can wear in a room full of rolex and still receive complements for.

Personally not a fan of the shape, love Seiko though.

I like this turtle shape/tonneau case 😆

·

Have you tried one, or is it just no love at first sight?

Here is the thing about the turtle case- it is tapered in a way that provies supreme comfort on the wrist. Someone also mentioned the crown at 4. It really is a brilliant design that is easy to wear on just about any wrist large or small.

The 6309 turtle was a large watch for its time, and that case shape makes it wear quite a bit smaller.

I heard that they were comfortable to wear, I just don't like the shape. Maybe in time...

There are some cool variants out nowadays, worth a try.

I wanted a black dial and bezel diver for less than $300 and started looking used Seiko on eBay when I started watching a handful of auctions, I got a turtle when the dust settled. My first modern Seiko. It is not particularly accurate hitting around +30 seconds per day which I don’t like. The bracelet it came on is not very nice either (I may be spoiled for bracelets though…). Once I put it onto a NATO I loved it though. It is tall, but I’m what could kindly be described as a bit burly so it doesn’t look odd on me. The small lug-to-lug really makes it a great fitting watch as opposed to a super big chunk. The shape and cuts of the cushion case along with the circular brushing pattern on the steel look great. I think of it affectionately as my dirtbag watch.

The gold accents give it a bit of a unique feel. The lume is as bright or more so than my Tudor. There also seems to be no shortage of these on eBay going for under $200.

I do want to get it regulated but I’m in no rush. I just set it when I wear it.

It’s not the best watch on earth but it’s a great toss-about diver that has a unique charm as opposed to the mobs of homage divers in the same price range. I love mine.

Heresy!!

Love a Turtle, by far my favourite case shape, so comfy!

Had a 777, & a Manta Ray - until I discovered the spb Willards - I've got the black one & green one. Would like to collect all iterations.

Actually prefer them to my Seamaster or Aqua Terra tbh - more comfortable & love the diashield coating ( dunno why Omega don't use anything similar). Accuracy is in a different league on the Omega's,but still well within acceptable deviation ( around +6 to +15 )

Will have an SLA one day 😉

Don't knock 'em until you've tried 'em 😁

I understand the comfy part, but that's just one aspect. Being pleasing to the eye is the Prime Directive, followed by legibility, then comfort. Turtles fail out of the gate for me.

Fair enough, I love the look of the case & legibility is excellent (I'm old with rapidly declining eyes)...

To each their own 😉

Initially gunning for the original padi turtle. Tried on the wrist, and so surprised that I don't like it. Now, after 2 years, tried the new padi version, still don't like it. I give up. Haha

Should at least try them on the wrist before deciding...

Understood, but why wear a watch where you don't like the way it looks?

Because it can be very different on the wrist. I like how turtle looks, but I don't like it on the wrist. The reverse might happen too. Haha

I'm a bit late to this thread, but for me, it was love at first sight. I went to the shop, fully intending to buy another Seiko model, tried on the Turtle & bam, my intended purchase was forgotten.

Sure, it's a big watch for my 6 ½" wrist, but the cushion case is so comfortable. I'm sure other watches will come and go, but I really believe this will be my forever watch. 😍

·

I used to not like it. Once you wear it though, that's a different story. It's function over form. One of the most comfortable watches I've ever worn even with its size. Then, you start to look at it differently.

We'll see, I won't rule it out. Perhaps in time. 👍

I think for me, watching Apocalypse Now where he wears the Seiko 6105 and seeing a lot of other military folks in the 80s and 90s wear the turtle kind of turned me onto it.
