Help me choose

For context, I am celebrating a milestone and I want to buy a watch that will become a permantnpart of my collection. initially I was planning on picking up a Longines Conquest 39mm. However, Longines recently discontinued the model so getting one is difficult. I decided to see if anything else caught my attention and the Hamilton Boulton Mechanical seemed pretty cool and is more of a dressy wear to work piece.

So, I know it's my final choice but I would be interested in your perspectives. Which would you choose and why?

Going from Longines Conquest to such a dandy looking Hamilton is... quite a jump. Don't get me wrong, the Hamilton is very handsome. But the Conquest would be much more versatile.

Plus, I know this shouldn't matter, but Longines tends to be a bit pricier than Hamilton, and is perceived (by me 🤣) as more upscale. For a milestone watch, that kind of things might matter...

I have a soft spot for non-circular dials so if it were me I would go with the Hamilton. I found that these dressier pieces lend well in casual wear if you know how to pull it off. They’re a lot more versatile than people give them credit.

·

If you don’t have a sport watch like the Longines I would opt for that but if you already have a solid steel sport watch on a bracelet the Hamilton would be nice.

I think I see a sporty watch on a nice bracelet as a necessary part of a collection.

·

Love the Hamilton. The longines would be more versatile but that Hamilton is so handsome, it definitely stands out more. I world go for that Hamilton.

·

I would go for the Conquest. It's more versatile as you can dress it upp with a leather strap or down with a nato/rubber. That said, if I had a similar watch to the Conquest already in my collection, the Hamilton is a pretty solid choice!

·

The new conquest is sporty and versitile have you considered it?

My vote goes to the Hamilton.

The Longines is very characterless. I could be produced by any brand. It is made to please everyone.

The Hamilton is quite unique. It is not only square, it has slightly tonneau shaped curves. And the lug design is awesome.

·

My choice is the Longines HC. I recently picked up a ceramic Hydro Conquest with a rubber strap, obviously it is not for all occasions but is a terrific watch personally would wear it even with a suit.

·

I would go for the Longines. Further than that, if you decided to go with a white dial tank style watch, I’d recommend checking out other options in Longines, Oris, Fears or one of the microbrands. There are many similar models on the market.

·

I would look into the Hamilton if you are interested in it. I think the lug to lug is substantial so make sure you’re ok with that

·

I really like both Hamilton and Longines a lot.

Between these two, I'd go with the Hamilton and it's not even close.

To me, this is the most boring design Longines have made, sure it's versatile but it's also very... Vanilla. 🤔

I think the Hamilton makes more of a statement and it's a very uncommon model.

If this was a choice between the Hamilton Boulton or something like the Longines Silver Arrow for example, then it would be an incredibly hard choice for me to make.

With all that being said, both of these watches are excellent and if you like the Conquest style then you can't go wrong with either one really.

·

First, both of them look superb and you can't go wrong for both.

If I have to choose one, I'll definitely go for the Hamilton. I prefer a watch brand that is both affordable and reputable, allowing me to truly comprehend the essence of the brand. The specifications are not a priority at all, so I absolutely love wearing it and enjoy enhancing both my professional, casual and everyday looks!

Meh, I think it’s lost personality. IMO it’s neither here nor there and looks v generic like a 1000 other models. So, respectfully, disagree.

Don't worry I don't necessarily disagree with you. I'm sitting on the fence with the new conquest.. I am a fan of squarish watches and would most likely go for the Hamilton.

·

Between the two? Easy! Do you plan on getting it wet? I myself don't like to take off my watches for almost anything, so water resistance is the biggest factor imo.

Did you see these ? Just saying

Yes, I did see these. A bit on the pricey side as Alpina tend to be. I appreciate the suggestion though.

Longines all day, every day

Look at the new version of the Conquest before you throw down on the old one if you go down that path … The Hamilton isn’t in the same versatility ballpark, not knocking the watch, just not a good comparison of use case .

The new models are priced out for me and at 2700 Cdn. Part of the appeal of the Conquest was that Longines was providing a lot of watch for a reasonable price.

Fair point and the old model you might be able to pick up the outgoing model under retail for sure if you shop around:) good luck with your choice , 300 mtrs of water resistance is pretty damn good too !

·

I’m debating between that Longines and the #Hamilton Murph 38 😩

·

I would go with Hamilton. If Indiana Jones could wear it so do you ;)

Which one fills a gap in your collection? If you are dead set on the Longines, go for it. Otherwise if you have one or several three handed sports watches, go for the Hamilton. Either way, excellent watches.

Handsome collection! Honest question - are you going to move one of these watches out to make room for the new watch? If so, which one?

No plans to move any piece. If I am being honest there are a couple in the box that are sentimental and don't get a tonne of wrist time. The Citizen Perpetual Calender needs to be serviced as well.

·

the Hamilton is incredible. I did not know this model but I really love the shape of its case. go for it

·

A Longines spirit 37mm, or a spirit zulutime 39mm or the new hydroconquest 41 are good alternatives too. However if you only have to choose between the two, I might go for the Hamilton. Personally I’m not a fan of the old Conquest. But that’s just me

·

I really can't decide between the #longines or #hamilton

·

Of just your two pics, the Longines hands down. However, many more Hamilton's out there. And some are really cool.

·

Oh, Hamilton has a great catalogue and have done an absolutely amazing job riding the neo vintage wave. It looks like Longines is taking a few notes and has really stepped up their neo vintage offerings as well.
