Why is the Tudor Royal so underrated?

I love my 41 mm Tudor royal day date.

It’s so comfortable on the wrist, slim oyster style case with slick case sides, and the bracelet is great (if you can get it to fit your wrist size…), with a strong taper.

With a screwed down crown and a 100 water resistance, it’s a perfect daily.

Iget that the design is not for everyone maybe 🤷🏼‍♂️

What are your feelings towards the Tudor Royal WCers?

No to sure but, lt’s an awesome looking watch!

I was shown one when I went to buy a black bay 36…(ended up with the 41) and thought it was a bit bling for me. I’ve recently been looking at the royal again though, it would have to be the 38mm salmon dial. I’m actually afraid to try one on as I know I’ll probably buy it as it looks stunning.

Not my cup of tea. Too big intergrated bracelet, Roman numerals, day complication and not a fan of the bezel. Well you did ask. 🥺

It does come in smaller sizes, but if you don’t like all the features you mentioned, this definitely not for you 🤣

still on my list

maybe one day i'll get it but i'd go for the 38mm version :)

Go for it! Make sense if you like smaller vintage style watch presence. We have similar size wrists, and the lug to lug is compact for a 41mm case. Plus, I find the added day complication beautiful.

The date version is cleaner though

I agree it is a bit bling, it is the most “blingy” piece I own. It is apropos with a business casual style, which suits my office work 👍🏻The BB is a more versatile piece, but chunkier and doesn’t go as well with a suit I think 🤷🏼‍♂️As I also own the BB Pepsi GMT, as a more casual wear, I find the Royal offers a different look, more elegant and special than a diver, fitting for the business meetings or a nice dinner

I don't get it either - to my eyes it's a far better looking watch than the whole Bland Bay range of Sub wannabes. Cool original design that was ahead of the integrated bracelet fad. Don't get why it doesn't sell more. I'd buy one in the future for sure - it's certainly on my list of Tudor's, along with the North Flag and one or two older models.

I love the North flag as well! Don’t think I’ll get one, having two Tudors in my collection already, and I’m not a fan of the color yellow, but it’s very cool watch 😎

I get why it's a bit Vegemite (Australian Marmite). Sports watches with an integrated bracelet are divisive enough when they look like a slightly modded Royal Oak but fuck with the form a bit and add some Roman numerals and some people are gonna be put off!

I like it though - I'm a sucker for a Day / Date comp in that config. I did flirt with the idea of getting one but decided the FC Highlife is more my cuppa tea - not that I own one ... yet. It's on my (very short) list for 2024.

·

I personally think the 39mm is the perfect size for this watch and gives a serious alternative to the DateJust 41mm which I find a tad too big.

·

I don't know why, but all i know that you can snag one on C24 for a good price. I love the 34mm version and you can get those for a 1500-2500$!

I would like for it to stay this way.

The 1926 stole my heart first, I think.

·

I tried on the two-tone version. Under the shop lights, it looked cheap, I hated the bezel design, the dial was too reflective (and again, cheap looking), and the way the bracelet joined underneath felt rough to me. The edges of the case were sharper than on an AliExpress watch, not enough to cut but still too sharp for my comfort. I pointed it out to the shop manager who said, "They are all like that now." Basically, it's an extremely overpriced £200 watch, and even at £200, I wouldn't rush to buy one. It's a Day-Date "homage" when all is said and done, but the integrated bracelet makes it wear more like a PRX, and those aren't exactly fantastic either.

·

I have had this thought. I think it’s a spectacular design! I love the classic day at 12 o’clock and the dial in case or so perfectly balanced. I think it is under rated because I’m here field of integrated sports watches have become so crowded. I also think because these originally came with a eta Based movements, they were not looked at as finally, as some of the other more expensive, integrated sports watches.

·

I might pick up a 38mm Royal if they made one with a day/date config - esp. if the day/date wheel was better color matched. Currently the white day/date wheel is so stark in contrast and seems to cheapen the feel of the dial/watch. At least to me.

·
NiroZed

I personally like the contrast in this case, but I totally get you

If they put the date below the day and moved the logo to the bottom of the dial that would probably work too

·
JaeBust

I like the Royal, and do not mind the Romans and integrated bracelet, but I think it would have looked better with a shiny polished bezel instead of the intermittent fluting, IMHO! 🤷🏽‍♂️🤩

I just don’t like the bezel or bracelet. I like the old Tudor Princes. Wish they’d bring those back

·

No, not for me, same issues as already posted plus the dial looks to empty with the numerals squashed up around the edge.

My thoughts exactly.

Are we sure it hasn’t taken off, or just that it hasn’t taken off with us nerds? These seem in the same vein as the Omega Constellation line, which sell far better than you’d think if you just were looking at from a watch nerd perspective.

Unfortunately Tudor, or anybody that I am aware of, do not release sales figures much less for individual models. So it is all speculation.

Anecdotally, I see fewer 1926 and Royal line watches in cases and they tend to sit there for a while, longer than a BB for instance. When cases are “refreshed” with new stock, there are far fewer Royals and 1926s than BBs in the new stock. I think they would order more if they were big sellers.

Then again, sales could be different in your part of the world than my little corner of the USA. 😃

·

it’s a great watch. don’t nderstand either…

Im on the list for a salmon one

Same here

How is it royal if it doesn't come in yellow gold?

Well they do have the two tone variant.. which I’m not a fan of myself

·
NiroZed

Hope you’ll get it soon 💪🏻

That's the goal..

See I knew there would be cool people on here

·

I think they are awesome. I don’t own one but I’ve tried them on many times.

·

The same goes with 1926. They are underrated as the cheapest entry to Rolex family. Both watches are not to expensive and ppl just don’t get the vibe of the luxury.
