History and Heritage goes to Rolex. Value and build goes to GS. I forgot the YouTubers name but he brings a good point that Seiko always admired brands like Patek and that was their bar to reach for GS. So with spring drive and their dials and finishing the innovation goes to Seiko. The hype easily goes to Rolex.

Team GS cause they come in with great dials like Snowflake and Rolex counters with OP Celebration. I rest my case, your honor.

Rolex is overhyped and doesn't deserve the attention just because they treat us collectors so disrespectfully (vintage Rolex excluded). No question I would offer my money to GS.

·

Check out my profile where I am doing a poll where people can choose their favourite brand, now the semi fibals sees Rolex vs GS, and you will have the response from the community!

·

But I do prefer the explorer between those two I cant say the same for other rolex models

·

I'm on team Rolex ,love the design to be honest I don't know a anything about GS

·

There’s more variety in Rolex for me and the designs are better. The finish and movements may go to GS, but overall wearing experience is a Rolex for me.

i see and i think that everyone has it's personal taste.

i own a snowflake and i love the watch just incredible watchmaking by GS, however rolex watches are incredible as well

As much as I love GS innovative spirit, attention to details and whole Japan philosophy ( not to mention the dials ) I simply don't like their design. If you take out the dial 90% of GS look the same, no matter if dress, sports, GMT ... all in somewhat dressy look. They should focus more on design variety to get more people behind the brand, you can do mirror polish on other than dauphine hands too. Divers offer some difference but also not my favourite design. And still need much work on bracelets in their price range.

I don't know why, but the Explorer is my perfect watch with a Omega Railmaster being a semi distant second. However, I can't see myself spending the amount of money necessary to own either. Other Rolex models are nice, but not my to my taste. I don't know a lot about GS. They are very elegant, but the look of the power reserve indicator is a deal breaker for me. I can't bring myself to spend much more than around $300 for a quartz watch. I'm probably wrong, but that's how I see most GSs.

·

You wear a Rolex to impress others. You wear a GS to impress yourself.

·

so which brand for you provides more for the money, which brand is more innovative ?

functionally speaking GS definitely provides more for the money. As a status symbol, Rolex wins.

Innovative? Hands down GS. Spring drive, quartz, Kodo tourbilon, hi-beat movement, cool optical dials, tentagraph. I’m trying to remember if Rolex has done anything significant on the movement front since Daytona.

·

Even though I really, really don't care for the organically textured dials and wish GS weren't so grandly dimensioned, they are doing interesting things while Rolex is perpetual Groundhog Day.

·

Grand Seiko both provides more for the money and is more innovative. Rolex copies and improves on ideas -- GS creates ideas (i.e. Spring Drive).

·

I think they are different things and cant compare well.

GS is like a timeless classy sedan, Rolex is a sporty 2 door.

·

Which brand provides more for the money and is more innovative?

Good question with an easy answer: Grand Seiko.

I’m fan of both brands and have both in my collection. But honestly I see Rolex, as good as they are, as a one trick pony. They focus their energy on perfecting classic designs and Swiss lever escapement movements. Which is great, love my 124270 Explorer (only had it a couple of weeks and am still in the honeymoon phase). But as nice as it is, it’s rather pedestrian compared to the SBGA211 Snowflake. GS is doing things with designs, especially dials, and movements (high-beat autos, spring drive, high accuracy quartz) that Rolex simply doesn’t bother with. So it’s little wonder why GS is so often favorably compared to Rolex. And hardly surprising, it wasn’t that long ago when the Japanese watch industry came pretty damn close to “innovating” the Swiss watch industry out of existence during the quartz crisis.

Most GS’s aren’t quartz. And not all have power indicators on the dial.

Like I said, I don't know tons about them. I'm sure they're great watches. Just going on my perceptions from Youtube videos and online forums. I did see some in display cases when I was traveling.

·

I need to spend more time with GS and drink more of the Kool-aid. I started with Omega and Rolex because I didn't know other collectors and those brands seemed aspirational. I hear nothing but good things about GS which isn't always the case with Rolex (accessibility) and Omega (never ending limited editions).

·

Spring drive is magical.. but GS are too shiny. Too perfect.

Give me a slightly beaten up Explorer for adventures, every time.

·

Tudor?

·

I was actually jesting as you said you chose the snowflake!? Hence my Tudor reference. Sorry it was lost in translation!
