German Watchmaking

Hey crunchers. I have thought about this for a long time and i wanted to hear you guys. It seems that Swiss Watchmaking is regarded as the very best that you can get for your money ( wich in some cases maybe is ). Japanese Watchmaking being also up there, but in my opinion the Germans are strong contenders for the number 1 spot. I feel the overengeneering and the attention to every detail is better executed then the Swiss Watches. So i have here some Watchmakers that i want to share with you guys, let me know if you know more brands.

Not sure if you’re interested in watching it but Tim Mosso did a great video yesterday on his “Watches Tonight” platform, and he discussed the different levels of finishing and the brands that offer the best in the business. Some of them are from Switzerland and others from Germany. https://www.youtube.com/live/3CsIyRi2xqM?si=Khe8SXRqbZmXHxoI

The section on finishing starts at 15:20.

Here is a Lange Datograph Flyback & Glashütte Original PanoMaticInverse

Don't forget Sinn, Dornblueth or Stowa.

What a cool hanhart! I really like Sinn's design, great specs too, if I had the dough I'd probably pick one of those up.

Yes they are fantastic great watches 😊👏

·

Junghans!

There are many - also Mühle, Union, Lang & Heyne, Chronoswiss. To me Germans are beating Swiss. Normally better finishing, more interesting designs at a more reasonable price. But maybe I just have a strong connection to Germany so am biased :)

Btw - Habring2 is an Austrian brand 😉

·

Junghans … why did you forgot it? 🥺🥺🥺

·

I have not seen the Ickler family brands mentioned, being Limes and Archimedes. Probably Archimedes may be the better known of the 2 brands, and also the more exploratory in terms of watch design compared to Limes. But, very well made watches.

·

I like Junkers and Zepplin. I have one of the latter

Couldn’t agree more! Let’s not forget Kudoke. Beautiful watches.

That's an interesting topic. I also wrote about the roots of the german watch industry and influence of the swiss watch industry to germany in my article as like these one about Pforzheim.

Infact the german watch industry has the same DNA as like the swiss industry.

There were also heavy rivalry.

These days the german watch industry landscape offers still dozens of watch brands but mostly small and medium sized in production numbers compared to swiss and japan. But very high sophisticated and passionful.

As I see our fellow already posted most of the brands.

I also want to add one as I didn't saw it here yet and I'm about to write a new article about.

Tourby

Making some very uncommon watches in old Ottoman style

Image

But also great Divers with Sapphire bezels and awesome shiny dials as like the lawless.

Many parts are handcrafted and are offered for resonable prices.

Another one to mention is:

Lehmann

A Badass of a watchmaker which produces "EVERYTHING" inhouse. Not just every little part of the watch but also the machines to manufacture them.

Currently saving up for my first German, a Laco Atacama.2

·

It’s a pretty leveled game out there right now with all watch makers. French and British ones are pretty cool as well.

·

Anyone know of more attainable German brands? Under 1k?

·

My man! 🍻 Crushing it with pretty much having 2 or 3 of every watch listed, plus a few nobody yet thought of.

You and @JaeBust are the official unofficial #watchcrunch museums 👏

Thank you for the mention, my friend. You shower me with accolades that I don't deserve, and IMHO, our collective watch collections are the museum of #watchcrunch! 🥂🍾

·

💯 agree. German watchmakers give you absolutely great value for price. They also make some of the finest watches in my opinion that exist on the market today. The attention to detail and quality of materials is excellent. What I would not do to have a Hanhart Desert.

Here are a couple that we're not mentioned; Zeppelin (POINTec) and SINN.

German>Swiss in my experience. Fight me.

Germans to it better all over the curve. At low end you get very good bang for buck and at high end you get the most exceptional watches out there

Anyone know of more attainable German brands? Under 1k?

Dekla, Laco and Circula all fit in that range. Or a pre owned Stowa.

·

Love watches from Germany, such as my recent Hanhart🤙❤️
