More contributions from those who collect affordable watches?

Scrolling through the postings, it seems clear that higher end watches are discussed more often than inexpensive ones. Could more of us in the affordable neck of the woods contribute more?

I think if you look through the WRUW posts, you will see a very good mix of affordable and expensive. Most of us have watches as cheap as the Casio classics to Timex to Vostok to micros to established entry luxury watches. That said, I think many users would appreciate it if you and others posted about purely affordable watches.

Just remember that affordable really is very subjective and varies from person to person.

Every bit as enjoyable and relevent as watches costing thousands. I have some of those too but these are worn as much, or more, than the high priced spread.

Surely the best way to get conversations going on affordable watches is to start it yourself. I personally haven’t got any luxury brands in my collection and none of my posts I have been about the higher end of the market but people happily contribute.
I guess what I’m trying to say is if you’re interested in something post about it. I think you’ll find that so long as you’re not insulting, people will get into it.

·

Affordable is a pretty subjective word. I figure $500 or less constitutes that, but I know plenty of folk who think that a $500 watch is expensive, and others that will gladly plunk down $1000+ on a watch every few months. I think there is a pretty fair amount of representation on the $500 and less bracket on here, but I'd say post some stuff. If you build it, they will come.

·

I've heard people say that under $€£5000 is affordable. I've heard people say that you must be crazy to spend more than $€£100 on a watch.

I find that on here there is lot of content in multiple price ranges. But more is better so feel free to post about your affordable watches, no matter what price that may be.

To get the party started, here's my vintage Timex I bought for 18 €. I do consider this affordable 😉

Affordable isn't really subjective. If you are in poverty (which many people are in the UK), you can afford only the least expensive watch. If you can afford a watch at all. If you are a high earner and have plenty of disposable wealth, you can buy something much, much more expensive. The association between wealth and buying stuff is clear and not particularly subjective. The association between pretty much no disposable wealth and buying stuff is also clear.

My affordable trio, the Citizen's MSRP is US$900+ but I got it under $500, which I am presuming is the cut off for affordable for most people here.

I've made posts about each of the watches!

·

What do You considerable to be “affordable?” It’d be helpful to talk about a price range rather than use a term that means different things to different people.

Here here. Most of my posts are regarding ultra affordable watches well under 100 bones. You can only make a stainless steel case so nice. Expensive to me absolutely does not mean better.

Try 400 bucks cheaper.

These are “the affordable icons” in my collection. The pieces that, I think, are known for their quirky significance.

40mm Seagull 1963. A Chinese watch with enduring style and a muddy history.

CasiOak. All black original. Nuff  said.

Vostok Amphibia. Pick your combo of case, dial, and strap, but the story of innovative engineering is always a fun talking point.

Raketa Big Zero. Doesn’t get the noteriery it deserves For its original design and potentially apocryphal tale of Gorbachev and Perestroika.

Not pictured: a pair of Orient 2nd gens.

In that case only the Casio would survive 🫡

Eh, I don't see a bias toward luxury or expensive watches here. There are plenty of posts about Casio, Vostok and lower end Seiko, just to name a few. My own collection leans toward 300-800$ watches because for me this is the price range where I find the more interesting watches and I believe that I'm not the only one with similar preferences. Is it affordable? Well for me it's obvious that it's affordable since that's what I bought. Is it worth a discussion? Hmm...it depends because this is a price range that includes some of the most popular watches and they have already been reviewed to death.

·

Just because you mentioned this, I've decided to revive some of my cheap watches that I used to wear. Say hello to the Parnis GMT. The bracelet was awful, the date bubble is misaligned, and the ratchet on the bezel is agricultural. Hand winding it feels like the movement is made of sandpaper. But replace that bracelet with a Barton Elite silicon strap, and it's quite a good little beater watch. Gains about 15 seconds a day, so I'm never going to be late. Good for traveling to high crime places where you wouldn't take a Rolex - like London.

Can’t get anymore affordable than this. 😎

Hahahahaha. I’m just kidding. Trying to lighten the mood here.

Yeah sure

·

What do you consider inexpensive?

·

Well, I feel the term "affordable" is not only subjective (watch Teddy and Kevin talk about the subject) but it is a term that has been perverted by the watch industry. There is the part of the watch industry that has an incentive of pushing the pricepoint for affordability up, to shame you into buying watches that are actually too expensive for you. And then there are the merchants that sail under the "affordable luxury" banner.

On watchcrunch, there are quite a few discussions on watches costing relatively little (look for the #budgetwatch tag), there are also quite a few reviews of such watches, i.e. in our Reviews section. These often draw less attention than reviews of fancier watches, but that section is browsable.

·

the only problem I would face is the servicing fee….and it may cost more than the price I purchased

Image
·

My intention wasn't to stir up a hornet's nest here! Just a simple plea for references to a wide range of watches. In an odd way, I think I have met my objective.  Attached to this posting is the biggest collection of 'lower priced' watches than I have seen for a long time. 😂

Even more awesome is the fact that I picked up about 2 years ago-brand new in box along with another Timex at Nordstrom Rack for 19.97 each!

The best thing about affordables is the convenience of wearing them without really worrying about them.

For many, 'affordables' are regular watches that people buy because they can afford them, like them and enjoy wearing them. I wear affordables and worry about them just as much as I would if I had expensive watches.

Well taken my friend. In my case I wear them for the outdoors, rough or physical activities, etc. 😉
