What makes a watch an instant no?

Is there any particular feature or style that will instantly make a watch a no? Personally, I would never buy a watch with Roman numerals but it could be something else like a specific material or colour for you.

That would be california dial for me.

Watches without an hour/minute track are a deal breaker.

·

GMT for me.

·

Skeleton or Open Dials oh god

Date.

But I’m not a perfect man. Sometimes I cave. 🫠

Chronographs

·

Size for me, I think I’m open to most styles or dials, but if its over 38 I’m gone, I’ve had 40s and even a Duro but they just don’t look right, so now I just fully avoid them

There will always be exceptions but for me it's digital display. Again there are exceptions, like my daughter gifting me with a Casio A168W.

Watch with skeleton dial

No date = no go

(usually)

·

Price. 🤑

·

You can say, "No?" Wow... 🤣

·

6:00 date window.

3? Great, 4:30? Cool, 9? Ok we're getting out there but I'm still in. Something about a date window at the bottom of the dial that kills the aesthetic of any watch for me.

more than 50 case size.

·

Any dial that isn’t circular. Maybe I’ll make an exception for a reverso someday.

That would be california dial for me.

I am looking for a watch with it instead, I just didn’t find the best one for me yet

·

Garish coloured dials, that is a lovely Orient dress watch, I have zero experience with the brand but would buy that item with no hesitation. Generally I do not feel Roman numerals work on any brand with the single exception of Cartier or on California dials from most brands.

·

I'm not a big fan of skeleton watches 😒

Can you elaborate on what you mean by “poor bracelet drape”?

Actually, if you have some time, read my review of the F77 here on WC. More details there but in short it is the “false information” regarding lug to lug distance, and also the level of articulation that the bracelet links exhibit.

In the case of the F77, the bracelet does not go straight down, and instead protrudes from the lugs before finally pivoting down.

Modern watches without a running seconds hand.

Also, can't stand *any* watch marketed as jewellery.

·

I won’t buy a big chonky dive watch.

·

Funny how everyone is different. I don't mind California dials or roman numerals. I don't like chronos very much, moon phases, or GMTs, with their oversized orange or red pointers, or Casio 'god tier' influencers. Each to their own!

·

Perhaps a controversial one but... Any watch that's a blatant direct copy of another watch and just has a different brand on the dial

·

This makes me an outlier . . . But I hate dive bezels.

·

Function Plungers on non-chronographs. If the extra complications can't be run through the crown, not a big fan. Extra crowns for internal bezel are fine.

18mm lugs for me. Also, weird ass names 🤣

On that I must agree, any wierd lug to lug is maybe not an instant no, but quite close.

God I hate those 19mm lugs...

·

For me size matters 😳

My fairly substantial 7.5" wrist cant handle anything smaller than 40mm.

·

Any child size watch smaller than 39mm 👀😂 is a no go!

·

Wood cases are a no-go

·

Have to agree on the wooden cases. For me I'm not a big fan of open hearts, a well done skeleton is beautiful. I really don't like straight out long lugs, if it's a small watch 33 to 35mm I'm okay with it. If the watch is larger it sits like a board on your wrist which I find uncomfortable.
