I’ve twice been in a shot very, very close to pulling the trigger in the watch. I have been arrived that the silver would look awful after a few years—glad to hear the positive review on that. My other issue is the lack of a date complication…but that’s just a BB thing generally. If it had a date complication, I’d own one right now. They’re beautiful.
Tudor isn’t something you can get for a couple thousand, unless it’s the 1926–which I highly recommend for the price. Got one and love it. I went for the 41mm, but probably would have gone 39mm if it had it to do over. The North Flag looks out of budget.
For Nomos, take a hard look at the Ludwig 38. It looks a little more grown up than the Club Campus, and at only 6.8mm thick, it’ll fill a certain sleek niche in your collection forever.
I was actually wearing my red Oris Pointer Date just a few minutes before seeing this post. I really like the case and bracelet, and it’s definitely a favorite. My only issue after wearing it a bunch is they the dial is flat and boring.
Those are my thoughts after owning some similar watches. I wear them about equally, but I think the Nomos just a little more, so I think I’d go with that.
“Personally, the way I see it playing out (in our lifetimes) is mechanical watches having a slow transition from mass consumer product to a niche artisan product.”
This already happened in the 80s, when you could buy a quartz Casio for $12. Anyone buying a mechanical watch ever since wanted the “artisan product.” I don’t see smart watches being a factor.
I’ve got the 38 enamel and really like it (except the dial color is a little TOO white sometimes). The 6.8mm thickness gives it a unique effortless feel I want sometimes. I also love the feel of the cordovan strap it comes with.
I added the bracelet from the Nomos website because it was so inexpensive. It’s worth about what they charge—pretty flimsy, but with a thin watch it works okay. I also added a suede strap from their website, which was also reasonably priced.
Those are my own comments as a happy owner.
