Wknd Vid: Is this Baltic worth a 9 months wait?

Thanks for helping me organize my thoughts for this vid😁 Baltic has been killing as of late, culminating in their new release of the MR01, a watch so popular that people are waiting almost a year for it. Today we look if the watch is worth the hype, and how Baltic was able to pack so much into such a budget piece. But I did find one thing that needs fixing!

Are you on the wait-list?

A very clean and well design watch needs no selling point, however the brand Micro has anomalies and hidden aspects that possess questionable things like history, value, and collectible worth, heritage etc!

I'm on the waitlist for a salmon dial.  Got an email saying that they already took my money, but will be delivering the watch in September.

I hope this goes better than that time I sent away money to that gal in Russia.  She said that if I sent her my life savings, she would happily come out in a few months time to marry me.  Unfortunately, after I wired her from my bank account, her email provider shut down her email, and I haven't heard from her since.  But, I know that even though we're not in touch anymore, she must be using my money to try to get a visa to come to me.

Maybe both she and the Baltic will arrive together!  I can't wait for September!

Bwahaha, hopefully when that fateful day comes, she'll be a classic lady with a modern flare, like the watch 😂

And if mail order brides were as cheap as this, you might just order a trio and decide later.

"I don’t know about crack, but…" If a sentence starts like that, it cannot get better ;)

I am not on a wait list and I will not.

Pro: The design is quite nice and this is really what you can call homage watch (not the fake Rolex Steinharts and so on). The dial and Breguet numerals as well as the unsymmetrical small second are looking really good. I also like that they kept the size that small and the strap also looks nice.

Con: a non reliable Chinese movement for 654€ wtf?! And why an acrylic crystal? If we see that case shape and the dome of the crystal there is no reason for the acrylic, a sapphire would not have distortion or so. It's only to cut the costs as on the movement.

For that money you can get nice quality Swiss or German watches with a reliable Swiss movement. The price seems to be adjusted to the hype and not the quality you get.

No watch is worth a 9 month wait.

Looks like they took some design cues from Omegas Dynamic.

I’m starting to agree with this. I’m on the wait list for a Helm Miyako, and the more time that goes by the less I find myself caring about whether or not I get that watch.

I'm on the waiting list for a silver dial, due in July. I agree with the reservations expressed about the movement, crystal etc for the price, but also, having worked alongside graphic designers for many years (not that I'm one myself) I do think that there is value in a design you find beautiful too. And I think this is gorgeous, and did so immediately from a quick glimpse of it in passing on a YouTuber's SotC video, before I knew anything about its hype or the brand. So I'm looking forward to receiving it, and for me five months or whatever it may end up being will pass pretty quickly in the grand scheme of things.

·

Well I'm on the waitlist for a Helm Watch, at the current rate I may be able to purchase that watch sometime this decade. 9 months by comparison seem like nothing lol.

I like the Micro Rotor cool looking movement but I'd probably still go for the Baltic Aquascape GMT first.

I don't understand the hype that Baltic seems to be enjoying these days. Sure, they make some nice looking watches, but I personally wouldn't use any superlatives to describe them. I'll admit that I haven't seen one in person, and might feel differently if I did, but from the photos and videos I've seen, they are a big "meh" to me.

I think its insane to put baltic in the same category as Oris or Sinn - both of these companies have their own technology, and Sinn in particular has made parts for other reputable brands (A. Lange & Sohne, Bell & Ross, ect).

Baltic is a microbrand that focus on homage pieces - true homage pieces. They do not replicate other brands designs, they are homages in the traditional sense, not the "oh look someone owns a Steinhart and we will stop calling them replicas because they switch the name on the dial and have 1 or 2 differences".

There is nothing wrong with Baltic (I quite like their designs) - but to even suggest they are independents like big time watch makers like Oris and Sinn, or even on the same path is really disregards the history of the brands.

Great video Max! Ive placed my order for the Salmon dial with navy strap and it's expected in July. As I said on the video comments, I think the crown was left unsigned to fit that vintage vibe and I think it fits that the design they were going for. I'm glad to hear the strap is decent, I was already looking at Delugs Saffiano in Navy Blue, but may wait to see the Baltic one. I do really like the one that came on my Bicompax 001 actually..

·

“Is it worth the wait?” That very much depends on the individual. If that person puts value into then yes. Anything could be worth waiting for - it all depends on whther you like it enough or not. Is it ’insane’ that a microbrand watch has a waitlist - not really. They can only make what they can make. They may be holding back supply to build up hype or to fund their next endeavour but so be it.

Also whether a watch has a proven movement or a movement made on the moon - does that‘s just a risk an individual will have to take. A more important question would be: will Baltic take care of me and stand by their product if it does fail?

Enjoying the vids - keep up the great content!

Yes the strap is stellar!  It's less about the crown and more about the feel of the movement it's connected to unfortunately that is unsatisfying. But the design more than makes up for it 👍

There's a guy on YouTube who had an issue with his and Baltic fixed it for him. I think they stand by their products, but not good to see that people are already reporting issues 😬

I went with the Lobinni and the movement has been fine.

i saw the Youtube video and you’re right - well done Baltic!

I am in the waitlist for this one. I'm excited to see what's what. But I think nothing looks like this in an affordable budget.

Yep. Nothing is worth a nine-month wait, especially since, in the luxury segment, there is so shortage of great choices. And this is coming from a Rolex owner, folks - I bought one brand new, but I'd never do the waiting list/secondary market thing. Really? People do that?

·

My blue dial MR01 is due in July and I'm a little concerned by some of the negative reviews of previous models, citing issues with the movement. Hopefully they can get it right with the next batch. One comment on one review described the MR01 as a "disposable mechanical watch" that will be hard to service in the future. Really hope this isn't the case!

Yes, ordered in March
