Could the Bulova Jet Star be the best affordable* 3-hand quartz? *Edited addition

Vintage inspired design, a few cool colorways, 262kHz precisionist movement which provides one of the smoothest second hand sweeps out there, a cool brand with lots of history and a affordable pricetag...

This could be the best 3-hand quartz.

The only downside i can see is the dominance of polished elements which will scratch fast.

What do you think?

Cool watch, but GS has a whole lot of cool 9Fs.

·

Maybe even a devil diver, hack, or art deco small seconds.

·

I agree, but if we are going for the best three hand quartz, regardless of the type of quartz, 9F is tough competition. Bulova/Accutron crushes with the sweep. Citizen is also has the 200, which is also stellar.

·

I have a soft spot for Bulova... I think just because I talk to a lot of old people, who remember it as one of yesterday's department store brands. I have no affinity for most of the brand's modern designs but the winners are real winners.

The Precisionists are a little pricey for me... I would have a fantastic opinion of them if they were under $500. Citizen seems to not want Bulova occupying the "everyman" niche that its mainline products do.

·

Would be if it were solar, even more so if it had surface hardening. 😆

·

Ah good catch - this is why I like forums more than real social media. Yes, that was imprecise. I remember looking through the whole Precisionist roster at some point but the new Jet Stars are definitely my favourite colour scheme to date.

Also spotted on Bulova's website: this is actually one of the most tasteful GMT worldtimer-ish designs I have seen.

if the GMT was smaller id actually consider it!

At it price, the Jet Star is definitely at the top of the pile. Bulova has hinted the will be coming out with more models using the Precisionist movement in the next year.

·

I love this watch, particularly the Merlot version. A class act in my opinion 👌

·

I like the design on my accutron 2 a bit better but given they are great watches.

·

Definitely gonna get it! Love the smooth sweep of the seconds hand 👌

·

Is this one new? It looks way better than the color ways on their website.

·

Love it! The movement is memorizing! Got my eye on the red dial on a bracelet myself...just waiting for wifie to ask what I want for Christmas 😆

·

If Grand Seiko is out of my price range, are the Bulova precisionist watches the only option for an affordable smooth-sweep second hand?

·

Oh my. Me likey this color.

hmmm i only know about the Seiko VH31 movement which has a sweeping second hand but not even close as smooth as the precisionist

Seiko were doing Quartz watches accurate to 5spm in 1975. The higher frequency will result in a short battery life too so I wouldn't buy into it too much - here is one of my 4843s gold cap. waiting on a custom strap.

bulova says battery should last 2 years.

i wouldnt worry about it that much

Is that a currently offered model? It’s a looker.

·

I really like this watch: the burgundy one in particular. It’s selling for $416 on the web. @bikerbill has hit it out of the park by putting it on a Milanese.

·

Cool watch, but GS has a whole lot of cool 9Fs.

Yeah, but Bulova is a fraction of the cost.

Unless they got crazy on pricing for this one. 😉

I think they're a couple years old. I got it refurbished a could months ago.

I hear you, but there some Bulova Accutrons that cost more than GS models with the 9F. To reiterate, the question was, “This could be the best 3-hand quartz...What do you think?” Not best for the money.

·

Seventies design, sweeping hands (or sweeping anything for that matter. I think the word ‘sweeping’ in combination with watches makes me cream my knickers…) and that price?! Yes please!

·

I love Bulova. My Frank Sinatra is so very cool to wear.

I really like it. That high frequency quartz is going to suck that battery dry. And I hear it's a pushdown caseback. Pain in the ass. I always have a moment of irrational fear when using the case press. I think battery life is 2 years. But I like it. This is the Bulova I fell in love with, not the Bulova cranking out hot garbage mall watches.

idk when it was released but i also just discovered it yesterday

Someone else watched Jody. Lol. I had heard of it, but Jody's was the first video I saw about it

·

Putting the price in play, you have a pretty good pick here though I’ve yet to see one up close. I have one of these movements in a Lunar Pilot and it’s the most accurate watch I own.

yes haha i knew the red one as well as the gold/mustard and the limited but it was the first time i saw the black gold one. it reminds me of the brew metric which i love

Love that new #bulova model very retro
