Hot Take: The Planet Ocean Needs a Cyclops

*pic not mine of course

The date window is so small, it is almost vestigial. Number is hard to read and is miniscule compared to the 12-6-9 arabics. Window small that if you changed the date wheel to white, it wouldn’t even counterbalance dial taking the place of the 3 o’clock index, like a lume plot.

A flaw in an otherwise near perfect watch.

A cyclops would fix this.

Removing the date complication would fix this as well, but what would be the fun in a boring take?

I think I'd prefer the window be larger or if that's not possible it be removed. My 2 pence.

·

I don’t mind the He escape valve on the PO, but hate it on the seamaster. I know that’s not the topic, but I’m just saying.

·

Cyclops is a dreadful solution to poor design. No watch has ever needed a cyclops.

It ain’t called a hot take for nothing.

·

No it does not. No watch should need a cyclops, they just need better legibility. In this case the date could stand to be bigger and I personally would prefer it at the 6 o'clock position. Ironically the Pagani Design version of this watch does just that and fixes the legibility issue by having a white window instead.

I see what you mean here. Would def benefit from anything that would increase legibility of that date. I don’t mind the cyclops.

·

When I look at the steam whistle on the left I think that the date window is the least of this watch problems.

·

the date, to be honest, looks out of place because its a tad small (it looks like an afterthought). at least they made the date wheel color in unison with the dial.

cyclops will probably enhance the legibility, though. hot hot take!

·

Uh no it does not!

·

Used to be in the Anti-cyclops crowd, but my old eyes have grown to like a cyclops on "some" date windows (Steinhart Ocean One). Also agree that designers should really make the date window and numerals larger / more legible rather than teeny / tiny afterthoughts. Looking at you Seiko Prospex Speedtimer!

·

If they’re going to do it, they should make it an internal one.

·

leave it alone, never ever ever mention cycloping the P/O 🤯 it wouldn't look right, I've had one and I didn't have a problem with it, saying that it was 12/13 years ago and I didn't have to lift my glasses to read small stuff back then 😊

·

I don’t mind a cyclops. Curious as to why the reverse cyclops has not been more widely adopted….

·

I agree on the cyclops. Thanks for making me use the dictionary to find the origin of the word vestigial.

·

No date

·

Can see it works with a cyclops, but I still think the no-date solution is better

·

May sound crazy and get some blow back, but I would move the date window to the 4 position (cyclops) and add the 3 so you have symmetry with the numerals. Would look great with 4 numerals in orange. I'm an Omega fan so be gentle🤣😂

·

Me too don't do the bump ,not on the PO.

·

Cyclops actually makes the date harder to see. If you’re not looking directly from the front of the watch, the cyclops obscures the date. I have two. I hate them both.

·

More like get rid of the date window. The Planet Ocean Ultra Deep, in my opinion, is the best design of the PO. They should make a regular version in 40mm and 42mm

No watch should have a cyclops.

Maybe a bigger date window but never a cyclops.

·

Got a 43,5mm PO, and yes the date window is very small.

But i don't want a grandpa cyclops on the crystal. Better to just remove the date. That would also bring symmetry to the dial.

·

No watch needs a cyclops.

If you think that it does, I‘d consider glasses first ;)

·

Yeah, an extra couple millimeters of cyclops should finally make this watch thick enough.

·

I concur...

·

I could not agree with you more...Im old LOL and it is almost impossible to see in certain light..The regular SeaMaster is a bit easier.

If you want a Planet Ocean, you not exactly desiring a thin watch.

So true but that is why I have a supply of Dress watches...LOL Enjoy the hobby

·

I'd be okay with a cyclops as long as they remove the hideous protuberance at the 10:00 position. 🤣
