The announcement of the Tudor 18K yellow gold BB58 was kind of a head scratcher to me. Aside from the $30K price tag (for a Tudor) making me wonder who actually plans to buy this over an alternative precious metal watch for the same price. I realized the other head scratcher, looking at official product photos of a solid gold 18K watch with a satin brushed finish ๐ค This is the only full precious metal watch to my knowledge that takes a full precious metal case and give it a brushed finish. Personally I am not that into precious metal, especially obvious colors like yellow gold, but if I were to pay that much for a full precious metal watch, I'd want max polished bling. Brushed finish seems a little counter productive to me and also seems to give the piece the look of a cheaper steel watch with a gold PVD coating. Anyone else with me on this or would drop that kind of ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ on brushed precious metal?

Yeah exactly, for that money I'd get a Patek 6119 any day
These kinds of watches are "F*** YOU" statement pieces.
You buy it to flaunt it, not to justify what's better than it...

Exactly, I don't see these appealing to the F YOU crowd because of the relatively restrained looks and lack of blingy, which makes me circle back to the Q: who is this meant for?
You nailed it
As much as I love gold, gold tool watches are kind of dopey already, and I guess a matte finish is a way to low-key the silliness.
I was just thinking, who is this watch for?! Like whatโs the target audience ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ

I'd love to hear what you think of the new solid gold Rolex Deep Sea ๐
The recent rise in the price of gold anyone?

Too obvious though
Who would buy it - people who have money who like gold
Why is it expensive - itโs gold
Why did Tudor make it - money

For those that previously purchased the older gold capped version on a strap they can now have a matching bracelet for 4 times the price of their watch - great service
They came out with that Watch in 2021, but it was on a leather strap. I donโt believe it was very popular. Letโs face it. Even the guy in my AD told me they did not envision selling any then. This is a total head scratcher. They mightโve had so many leftover, but they decided to make a gold bracelet to try to sell what they had. Thatโs my guess.
The value retention on this would be awful ๐ you could prob pick this up for a huge discount in a couple years second hand

The previous one was solid gold actually

I stand corrected still what 10k for the bracelet?

Itโs a total ripoff of course !!
Probably same thought process by Tudor as Seiko with 6k dive watch.
I'd love to hear what you think of the new solid gold Rolex Deep Sea ๐
But gold rolexes are actually SHINY!
Unless Tudor is tarted up this movement, there is barely anything to see here. This is like a nun in full garb at a strip club.
Btw, did you know this was a Tudor watch? Movement x1, rotor x1, and caseback x2.
Maybe this is the watch that helps fund something interesting in a few years? Maybe it's the watch that starts Tudor down the high end luxury unobtanium path?
I hope it's the former and not the latter.
When I saw it first I thought it was full bronze ,if youโre going gold I think it has to be the full bling otherwise it looks like pvd.

What I think? Here you go....๐
Gold Black Bay or VC Overseas ๐ค
To put in perspective how badly this will depreciate. I can get a used full gold Glashutte Original Senator PERPETUAL Calendar for circa ยฃ15k... These retailed at over ยฃ30k new. People who buy full gold watches at full retail are either very rich or crazy.
When I just saw the picture I thought it was another bronze watch from them and didnโt see the big deal. I had to read the thread to see thus was full gold. Understood it will be different over time as bronze patinas, but agree it seemed like Tudor was carving out a nice niche and this is against whatโs been working for them lately.
You know what puzzles me the most about this watch?
A full gold Submariner in new condition is 36kish. Available today from a good secondary market seller.
Who is buying a full gold Bb58 instead?
